SWINDON Judo Club’s Roy Walker picked up a bronze medal when he took part in the World Masters Judo Championships in Atlanta recently.
Walke took part in the Open contest in which players fight in their own age group against fighters from any weight group.
He progressed to the semi-final where he was defeated by Russian under 100kg player Marek Popperl, which meant Walker would compete for a bronze medal.
Walker got the upper hand early on against under 81kg American Will Chapin, making three scores to pick up the win and a well-deserved bronze.
The previous day the Swindon fighter had taken part in the men's 30-34 years under 73kg section, where Walker lost to Brazilian Alan Leonardo in the semi-final.
