DANNY Wilson insists Sean Morrison remains a big part of his plans at the County Ground, reiterating that the defender’s spell at Southend is purely a temporary arrangement.

The 18-year-old’s loan deal at Roots Hall has been extended for a second month in order for Morrison to get more competitive game time, and with the transfer window set to re-open in January there has been speculation that he could leave Swindon permanently.

But when asked whether there was any chance of Morrison making a full-time switch to Southend or any other club, Wilson’s reply was an unequivocal: “No chance at all.

“We are using this, Sean is using this and Southend are using this for what it is - and that’s to get the boy fit.

“They need a centre-half, Sean fits the bill and Sean needs games.

“It’s a better option than having him at the club and just playing a few minutes here and there.

“This suits us all and, more importantly, it suits Sean, which is great.”

While Morrison plys his trade in Essex for another few weeks, Wilson believes Town will reap the benefits once the teenager returns to his parent club.

“He needs games, and at the moment in time the back lads are playing so well that he would be on the fringes again,” said Swindon’s manager.

“We don’t have any reserve games and had to arrange a friendly this week simply to give some of the boys games.

“But Sean has gone one step beyond that (with his loan move) - he is playing at a good standard and it will stand him in good stead for later on, because there is a certainty that we will need to call upon him at some point.

“And when we do we will know that he is match fit and at the tempo and the level that we are competing at.”

Wilson has spent the last week casting his eye over a potential new recruit for Swindon’s ranks - Woking midfielder Harry Arter.

The 19-year-old has been on trial at the County Ground and played in the reserve team defeat at Portsmouth in midweek.

Arter impressed for Woking in the FA Cup against Town last month, and Wilson admitted: “It’s been nice to have a look at him first-hand in the group that we’ve got.

“We played him in the friendly at Portsmouth and he did very well. We wouldn’t be able to do anything until January anyway (because of the transfer window), but it gives us time to have another look at him before then.”
