ANTHONY McNamee’s decision to swap the red of Swindon for the yellow of Norwich City was based around “the simple fact of the size of the club and playing in front of 25,000,” according to the 26-year-old winger.

McNamee, pictured, agreed the terms of a two-and-a-half year deal with the Carrow Road club yesterday, almost two years to the day after joining Town from Watford.

And whilst many Town fans may not be too upset with the winger’s defection to East Anglia, Swindon boss Danny Wilson insisted that McNamee was good value for Swindon in his time at the County Ground.

“Anthony did well for us but he’s made this decision, and it was a difficult one for him to say no to,” he said.

“He’s got to move on now and we wish him well.”

McNamee’s new manager at Norwich, Paul Lambert, believes the former Robin adds a further dimension to his high-flying side.

And although the diminutive wide man has made just two substitute appearances for his new club during his month-long stint in Norfolk, Lambert is adamant that McNamee will force his way into the reckoning for a first-team starting berth.

“When Anthony has the ball in a wide area he will be able to deliver it, which I think sometimes you need to have a different way of playing at certain times in certain games,” he said.

“And that is what he will give us - the speed and quality from the wide area.

“He is finding it a bit difficult at the minute just because of the way the team is going, but his time will come and I think he will be a terrific player for this club.”

McNamee himself is evidently determined to make the most of the opportunity.

“It is just a case of being patient as the team is on form so it is hard to get into the team at the minute, but hopefully I can get in and play some games,” he said.
