TOWN centre-back Hasney Aljofree looks set for a move away from the County Ground, with League Two outfit Crewe believed to be leading the chase for the veteran defender.

The 31-year-old, pictured right, has not played a single first-team game under Danny Wilson, as he picked up a serious knee injury just before the County Ground boss was unveiled at Town on Boxing Day in 2008.

And with summer signings Gordon Greer and Scott Cuthbert having formed a strong partnership in central defence and Sean Morrison back from his loan spell at Southend, Aljofree’s options in Wiltshire appear to be limited.

Having returned to action with the reserves recently, the Manchester-born player is believed to be keen to move to a club where he can get regular first-team football, though it is not known whether he would be willing to drop down a division, should Crewe declare their interest in signing him.

Aljofree’s contract runs out this summer and it is thought that Town would be willing to let him leave on a free, which would ease the wage bill at the County Ground.

The defender’s agent, Clive Hart, said: “Hasney is looking at his options this month as he wants to move on in search of a new challenge.

“He has six months left on his contract, but Swindon have indicated they would let him leave on a free transfer if the right offer comes along.”

Meanwhile, only two League One games survived the cold weather on Saturday, with Leeds United drawing 1-1 at home to Wycombe Wanderers and Norwich City winning 3-1 against Exeter.
