SCRAMBLING Mark Collier is desperate to bring two bodies into the Supermarine side ahead of tomorrow’s Southern League Premier Division trip to Truro City.

The Hunts Copse chief has been busy in the transfer market of late, but with his injury crisis showing no sign of abating, Collier is trying to loan a duo from higher leagues in time for the trip to Cornwall.

The injury situation worsened during Tuesday’s 2-0 Southern League Cup defeat at VT FC when Matt Robinson twisted his knee and was forced off at half time.

That means that Collier is now without seven first-team players for tomorrow’s game, who in addition to Robinson are Ady Williams (groin), Chris Allen (knee), Justyn McKay (calf), Ash Edenborough (back), Mark Barnes (hamstring) and Luke Hopper (suspension).

“We’re talking to several people with a view to getting them registered for Saturday, but hopefully we’ll have two in,” revealed Collier, who added that he was searching for players in all outfield positions.

“They would be youngsters from Conference South clubs and maybe from the Conference, but it’s in the lap of other clubs who have injuries and aren’t always keen to let their players out.”

Struggling Supermarine will make the journey to Cornwall early tomorrow morning with the aim of making amends for their last result against City.

In their previous meeting on a miserable late August evening, Supermarine started well but were eventually overwhelmed by the swift counter-attacking and ruthless finishing of their visitors.

Since then, ex-Yeovil boss Steve Thompson has taken the reins and City’s reputation as an entertaining, goalscoring side has very much remained intact.

“I know they have got plans to be the first Cornish Football League club,” said Collier.

“They have a lot of pace in their team and have some decent players who have played at the highest non-league level.

“We need to make sure we’re mentally strong, if you’re fragile the you’re not a lot of good to anyone.

“The bottom line is we’re in a dogfight. It’s a big ask for the players to play 19 games in a short space of time, and we’re asking them to go beyond the line.”

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Chippenham Town can help Supermarine out with a win at lowly Hemel Hempstead Town.

The Bluebirds have just completed the signing of ex-Team Bath and Weymouth teenager Nathan Loader.
