SWINDON TOWN: Wilson to step up loan hunt after injury nightmare

DANNY Wilson will scour the emergency loan market for new signings after seeing his Town side ravaged by injuries at Brighton on Saturday.

Top scorer Billy Paynter and Sean Morrison didn’t travel to the Withdean Stadium due to hamstring and groin injuries respectively, which were picked up in training, while Swindon lost goalkeeper David Lucas (hamstring), striker Vincent Pericard (hamstring) and winger Danny Ward (head) all in the first half on their way to a 1-0 victory.

And although Wilson explained he had never stopped looking for fresh faces, the boss admits he has now stepped up his search and could look to bring in a striker.

“I’ve always been trying to get other players in, irrespective of what happened in this game,” said Wilson.

“But what this may do is speed up a couple of other areas which we thought we were okay in and now it is a bit different.

“We will have to wait about how bad the injuries are until we’ve had them assessed over the weekend.

“But you can’t worry about it. If the boys are injured then they’re injured and there isn’t a great deal we can do about it.

“We will just rally the troops, put the lads who are fit in cotton wool and get them ready for Tuesday night (against Southampton).”

Charlie Austin’s 69th-minute effort separated the sides, and Wilson was delighted with his decimated squad.

“In adversity sometimes you see the real characters in the team, and today you’ve seen the character of the team and their determination to come and get a result,” said the manager.

“We knew it was going to be tough anyway, but when you have the injuries that we’ve had and you’ve got all three substitutions made by half time, then you’re just keeping your fingers crossed that nothing else happens.

“To come away with three points as we did with the way the game went, I cannot underestimate how I feel at the moment. It was a fantastic win for us.”

bit worried about the number of hamstring injuries, is this something to do with the training or just bad luck....

When is the deadline for Loans, is it the end of the Month?

Yes me too. When Sheehan had his hamstring injury a while back I did hear he was blaming the rowing machines. Only hear say but could be some issue there. Just hope some fans realise that with so many injuries the fringe players will be trying their hearts out for the club and the knockers should get real and give these guys a chance. At the end of the day we are all in this together, players, managers, board, and us the fans, and the enemy is the other 6 or more clubs trying to take our promotion away not our own players. All this negging gets out of hand sometimes with Phil Smith and now Pericard getting the brunt. For Christ sake they are on our side and as Danny said the other day support the club as it is OURS!

Yes,but even if we do get anyone in it won't be likely they would be able to start at Southampton.Expect to see a 4-5-1 from the start hopefully with the same result as Saturday.

You must mean Michael Pook. Why didnt he ever do that for us? Just shows the standard required is far higher in division 1 than division 2, it was awful football that year when under Wise & Sturrock we managed to get promoted.

As a Swindon supporter living in Southampton its a pity we have an injury crisis at the moment as listening to Saints manager after their game saturday after their victory over Leeds his comments werent complimentary towards us and his comment 'im not worried abot Swindon' i hope will be rammed down his throat Tuesday night and we can come away with the points..
I hope the Swindon players are made aware of his comments and really spur us on to a win even with our injury problems.

Steve, to be fair before that hat trick game, he only scored 5 goals total in his entire career!! Lazaat - yes I did mean Pook... well spotted of the deliberate mistake! ;-) LeGod, I listened to the bbc site but all he said was "Swindon is a tough game Tuesday", though the interview does appear to have been cut short at 4.11 long??

at the end of the day Southampton have spent mega money, they get good gates so can afford wages etc without much fuss.
However I hope on Tuesday they get a fright, stick Billy Bodin in. Problem is DW and AF both Knew that if we had a spate of injuries or suspensions we would be right in it.
So lets hope he can get some new faces in asap fro the remaininder of the season.
Any news on our walking wounded????

GOOD LUCK on Tuesday really give them a hard time 1-0 to us in the 92 min would be super
COME ON YOU REDS

living in southampton i was really confident about the game and have lots of friends who support saints, not so confident after the rovers and McDons result and now the injuries, hope the youngsters can step up and the injuries aren't too bad, come on you reds!!!!

We have been lucky this with injuries up to this point so it was bound to happen sonner or later. However I'm not going to blame DW or AF for not having a big squad. I'm sure DW could have got some "bodies" in on loan by now, but they would not have been of the required high standard. We still have a good side regardless, although I'd be happy with a draw tomorrow (see what saints did to huddersfield)

Living most of my life in Southampton, this is a must win for me as I have told everyone down here who knows I am a STFC fan. Yes, it will be a diffucult game, especially with the injuries, but Saints have been up and down all season so I'm hopeful for an off day for them tomorrow

I doubt that the "hamstring-quartet" (quintet or whatever it is) will be fit, but possibly Danny will be ok. Given how we finished against Brighton it will be interesting to see if Charlie and Danny get to play together upfront. Think I would go with it and make sure Saints have something to worry about at the back. Chance for Billy B on the bench.

I completely agree and love the use of the word knockers! In fact I think we should see more knockers at the CG on matchday. Maybe Mr Fitton would like to run a special event to see STFC's biggest knockers or we could have a "fans knockers of the season" award!

OK, just one more time.....knockers!

Knockers indeed !!

billbst, if paynter is fit enough he will play, there is no way with his form and the way he has played this year he should be dropped for any other forward on our books, he has been a bully and has held the ball up fantastically and we will need that away to saints !!

Reminds me of the Fulham fans tring to persuade their board to get rid of manager Alan Dicks. Think about it.

Keepers paly on confidence so Smith will be up for it.

I reckon we'll get a 1-1 or 0-0 at St Mary's. Alan Pardew is a plank, by the way.

Pardew said on saturday on Radio Solent 'he's not worried about Swindon' he's also stated in the local echo a few weeks agao the only teams he fears in the league are Leeds,Norwich and Charlton and also stated at the time he is not worried about playing us. so i hope we put on a performance and a win was great as i live here and all my mates are Saints fans.

The Town players should be played a recording of Pardew stating that he doesn't fear Swindon, what else would motivate our players more than that. I love it when the arrogant players/managers/fan
s come unstuck, do they still think they are football giants......in div1.

Pardew can KNOCK US all he wants, couldn't stand the bloke's arrogance when he was Reading manager, one of those managers that has (laughably) fallen in love with himself, ie Chris Coleman etc. I hope we go for the JUGular tomorrow, & when I'm keeping my mates aBREAST of what's going on I hope I'm texting them good news. I can see it now, "Marshall NIPS in for a late winner...." If we do lose, our season won't necessarily go T!TS up, so keep supporting the lads (you mugs that were jeering Vinny at MK made me feel like smashing your heads into the concrete - total embarrassment).
Need to get my HEADLAMPS fixed before I set off for Hampshire tomorrow.
Think I'll have MELONS for a starter tonight, followed by a RACK of ribs....

Right, now that you've got that off your CHEST can we get back to talking about the game tomorrow?

If we play 4-5-1 we should be able to HOLD EM in midfield. We might even be able to get a FIRM GRASP of the middle, but that could leave us a bit light UP TOP. Still, if we get some long-range shots in, we can always hope for a few BOOBS from their keeper.
