GIRLS' FOOTBALL: Highworth's slump continues

Highworth Town Juniors Under 15s Girls’ dismal second half of the season continued as they lost again at home, going down 4-2 to Keynsham Town in the Bristol Girls League.

Highworth were lucky not to be a goal down inside the first two minutes as a shot across goal was eventually grabbed by keeper Marta Dyet.

Soon after, Molly Parker raced down the left wing and her cross was spilled by the Keynsham keeper into the path of Kerry Walklett, who put Highworth one up.

A second followed as a Jordan Higgs wind-assisted corner found the back of the net.

Five minutes before half-time, Keynsham pulled a goal back as their centre forward put the ball to the right of keeper Dyet’s dive.

After the break, Keynsham levelled and were looking far more relaxed then their hosts. Keynsham then made it 3-2, and shortly added a fourth as a looping cross found its way into the back of the net.

This seemed to spur Highworth on and they played some of their best football for the last 15 minutes, as Keynsham hardly escaped their own half, but the damage had already been done.

Meanwhile, IN the Oxford Girls League, Swindon Spitfires Under 10s were 4-0 winners over Chinnor, as Mia Mugford grabbed a hat-trick and Danielle Jones netted a single.

The Under 11s also won 4-0 in their cup quarter-final at Kidlington, Daniella Granato and Karolayne Byrom bagging a brace each.

Despite being a player short, the Under 14s shared the points with Didcot Casuals in a 2-2 draw.

The Under 12s picked up three points without kicking a ball as their opponents, Oxford Bluebirds, were unable to raise a side.

In the Wiltshire Girls League, Spitfires Under 13s lost out 4-3 to FC Chippenham.
