SOUTHAMPTON boss Alan Pardew has warned his players to be aware of Town’s spoiling tactics tonight, insisting opposite number Danny Wilson will treat a draw like a victory.
The play-off chasing pair go head to head at the St Mary’s Stadium, with the Saints bidding to close the gap on the top six after starting the season in administration and on minus 10 points.
But Pardew reckons Swindon will head south in search of a point to try and put a halt to their climb up the division.
He said: “We’ve got to put pressure on and we can’t afford a slip up in the next four or five games, that’s for sure. So this has got to be a win for us.
“Swindon are aware of that of course and can protect themselves a little bit, and I think they will and try to maybe have a game plan.
“We need to be on our toes about what will that game plan be to try and stifle us and stop our momentum and try and nick a win or take the draw.
“They know the emphasis is on us and Danny (Wilson) is a wise enough guy to give us a problem.
“A draw for them is a win, it’s as simple as that.”
Pardew believes Town’s squad and Wilson have not received the recognition they fully deserve this season, and is confident they will be taking part in the play-offs come the end of the campaign.
“I like the fact that the manager is consistent, the way he plays, always has been,” said Pardew.
“He’s an underrated manager in my opinion – he’s doing a fantastic job.
“The players are good players and know their roles too. I think they are underrated.
“They’ve been together about 18 months and look a side that will get in the play-offs. I don’t think we’re going to catch Swindon, and we might catch somebody else instead.”

Danny goes in to every game looking for 3 points and that won't change tonight, however in certain games you would settle for a point and that may be the case tonight. Our injury hit squad isn't ideal for the next to games, I pray that Lucas is available because Smith is very inconsistant. Town play better against the better sides so anything can happen. I'm going to be a bit abitious and say Swindon win 2-1.

lars You must be one of the worst readers of football ever. Need to get your facts in place. Saints started the season 1 week out of administration. How can you prepare like that. To lose 1.0 ( and I was there ) was ok in the circumstances. As for our position. Look at the goal difference, That is our true position. If you don't believe that look at all the other leagues. You will eat your words when we scrape in to the playoffs and knock you out at Wembley..A point away to Saints would be a great result for Swindon. You even admit that. BUT you wont get it. 4.0 is most likely.

Hang on a minute. Everyone has said that Pardew is a 'muppet' and a 'fool' because he said a draw would be like a win (in other words you would be happy with a point), but then you all more or less agree by saying that a draw would be a good result. What does that make you. Some of the comments on here are a joke.
We were awful when we came to you. Half our team has changed. We had only just come out of admin and had no pre-season. But hey, that's our problem not yours. In same way I wouldn't expect you to blame your 'injuries' when we beat you tonight.
We have won 7 in a row at home, and have only lost 4 in the last 33 (One to a Premiership side). Feel free to take a dig re: Portsmouth. I would do the same, but no one cares enough to be rivals with you. We have not been outside the top 6 form table since November.
Huddersfield arrived at our place, spouting off rubbish about how if we had the 10 points added on etc, we wouldn't be in top 6, and they got turned over.
In short, don't call someone a muppet, and then agree with him, because it makes you look like....well a muppet.
I look forward to you bring well over 3,000 down to our gaff tonight, like we did when we came to watch our reserves lose at the County Groiund.

Deal with it!? What kind of comment is that? I have no problem with where Southampton are this season. If we don't make the play-offs, which looks as though it may be the case, we'll be one of the favourites to go up next season.
We are also on our way to Wembley, 44,000 of us, and got to play Premiership teams in both cups this season....but your right, I'll just have to 'deal with it'.

You are the same as Leed's fans, think you're too big for the division as you have loads of fans. We have taken plenty of fans to Wembley every time we have been. Lets see if you are so smug come the end of the season.

As for last time we played, you could put the same argument for us. Only 3 will turn out that played earlier in the season, 5 if whole team was fit. I'm not making excuses. I still think we can beat you today. Even with injuries. Just think that if we didn't have 1 fit striker as well as numerous injuries else where it would be game of far higher quality. And please don't start with the juvenile comments about having fewer fans turn up to games. May well be the case but we're higher up the league and beat you last time we played. You have your fans, we'll have the points.

Settle down lads. Do we really care what Southampton fans think? Course we don't. They would swap with us in an instant as we will be in the play-offs and they won't. I have no axe to grind with these guys and I think that Pardew, buffoon that he may be, makes a perfectly reasonable point. I would be very happy with a point tonight given their form and our injury situation and I don't care how we get it - spoiling tactics or otherwise. I also think he made some quite generous comments about our squad and our manager which shows he does happen to pay attention to what's going on in this division. In my view, had we spent the money they have spent this season, we would definitely have the better squad and better first choice 11.
