SWINDON TOWN: 'Don't show too much respect to the leaders'

DANNY Wilson believes table toppers Norwich have “one foot in the door” back to the Championship, and warned his Town players to not give their opponents an ounce of respect.

Swindon entertain the League One leaders at the County Ground tomorrow, knowing that a positive result could further cement their place in the play-offs and keep up the pressure on an automatic spot.

But with Norwich seven points clear at the top, Wilson reckons the chasing pack are battling it out for second place.

“Norwich have got one foot in the door now,” he said.

“Another three or four wins and they will have virtually guaranteed that.

“They’ve got a quality squad and if you analyse the players and the amount of money it took to put them together, that’s why they are up there.

“But they have also had the consistency that every manager wants.

“We will have to put in a similar type of performance to what we put in at Southampton on Tuesday.

“Norwich have quality players and if we’re not up to the task that is put in front of us then we will have a problem.

“If we stand off and admire them then they are as good as any team in this league. But if we get into them then you never know, we might just have a chance of picking something up.”

Meanwhile, Town’s injury woes appear to be easing slightly. Billy Paynter (hamstring) and Scott Cuthbert (knee) are definitely out of Saturday’s clash with the Canaries, but Wilson is hopeful that David Lucas (hamstring), Sean Morrison (groin), Kevin Amankwaah (hamstring and glutes) and Vincent Pericard (hamstring) could play some part.

“Vincent is doubtful but with a better chance than the rest of them,” said the manager.

“He did a bit of training today (Thursday) and we’ll have a look at him to see if there is any reaction.

“Sean also trained and is probably about 60-40 at this moment in time. David did a bit of training and at a push may make the weekend, but it could be too early.”

I would be tempted to leave the team unchanged after Tuesday Night's heroics at Southampton.
But Danny Wilson know's best because he is a class manager.
This fact has been highlighted by some Bristol City fans on various forums over the past 24 hours.

Agreed old-stager but we hardly needed to hear it from them did we?

I remember chatting to a friend a few years back who is a city friend, just after they'd sacked wilson, and neither of us could believe it at the time.
Their loss will prove to be our eventual gain and I believe that he'll go one better with us and get us to where we want to be, rather than just missing out all the time like he did with city.

That's more like it Danny!!! Flip the respect, we're 4th on merit! The boys shouldn't be scared of other teams in this division, whether they're top and playing well or 2nd with a nice past pedigree.

It's 11 v 11 on Saturday afternoon's and we're as good as anyone, we know that!!

Come on you reds!!!!

Money to spend? A lack of money was a contributing factor in our relegation. Another fact Wilson overlooks is that this team is virtually the same one as was beaten 7-1 by Lambert's then team of Colchester Utd. Lanbert has come in and changed the belief of those players all, with few exceptions collected from Leagues One and Two.
True, you are in 4th place on merit (and I am looking forward to Town getting back into the second tier of football), but we are leaders of the Division on merit, also. Our players NEVER let their heads drop, which is why we have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat on so many occasions this term.
Get in our faces - you won't beat Colchester for doing that. However, if you don't show respect, Wes Hoolihan will leave players feeling embarrassed as he plays through them like they aren't there.
You met our second string players in the Johnstones Paint Trophy. The players tomorrow are riding the crest of a wave.
I am looking forward to it. Let the games begin, and may the best team (on the day) win.

If there's a game we're likely to lose in the remaining fixtures it's this one so I wold be tempted NOT to rush these players and risk them. Rest them for another weekend and hope that they can then last the rest of the season - even if it means losing Saturday. Three Points against Norwich would be nice but not if it meant losing 4 players for the rest of the campaign

Good shout Tosh Man this is just one game which allthough it would be nice to win is not as crucial as the last 9 games players being fit wise.
