SHEFFIELD Wednesday's Lee Peacock looks poised to hand Iffy Onuora a scoring boost in the battle for League One survival.

The Town boss has held talks with the forward who yesterday saw his Hillsborough contract terminated by mutual consent.

The 29-year-old striker had been told by the Owls that his existing deal at Hillsborough would not be renewed in the summer and he was free to use the transfer window to fix himself up with another club.

Town are just one of up to half a dozen sides thought to have been chasing his services but Peacock is believed to favour a switch south for family reasons.

Walsall have already offered the former Bristol City and Manchester City forward a contract but Onuora looks like beating old pal Paul Merson to the punch.

The County Ground chief told the Swindon Advertiser: "I have had some chats with Lee although nothing is sorted. But, yes he is a name on the list."

Onuora has made it clear for some time that he is anxious to add to his striking options with a tall, powerful forward high on his wish list.

Peacock certainly fits the bill in that sense.

He has made 20 starts in all competitions for the Championship strugglers this season, netting three goals for Paul Sturrock's men.

The striker is no stranger to Town fans, having spent four seasons at Ashton Gate, bagging 54 goals in 144 league appearances.

The player said: "Half a dozen clubs are really interested in me. They're all in the league below, that's where I've played most of my football, so that's no problem. It's finding the right team, it's got to be right."

If all goes to plan then Peacock, who will come in to bolster Town's attacking options, will pen a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Peacock isn't thought to be the manager's only target, with the chase also on for an attacking wide player.

Meanwhile, Swansea City boss Kenny Jackett appears to have admitted defeat in his quest to prise Rory Fallon away from Wiltshire. He told the South Wales press that it looked unlikely' to happen.

Boss Onuora said: "There's no change in the situation with Rory."

An increasingly likely route for the New Zealander is to leave the fresh deal unsigned and consider his options at the end of the campaign.
