ALAN Gow will put pen to paper on a switch to Swindon today, but he will not be joined by a new centre-back on transfer deadline day.

Former Rangers and Falkirk forward Gow was released by Plymouth Argyle over the summer having fallen out of favour at Home Park and has been attracting plenty of attention north of the border.

But Town boss Danny Wilson has won the race for the versatile Scot, who can play on either wing or up front, and he should be officially unveiled today.

Gow agreed personal terms over the weekend and the Advertiser understands he was shown around the County Ground yesterday by Wilson.

The relevant paperwork will be finalised this morning and the 27-year-old could make his debut in tonight’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy second round tie away at Southampton.

Gow is expected to be the only arrival in Wiltshire on a relatively quiet transfer deadline day, with Wilson coming up short in his attempts to land the experienced centre-back he has been so desperately seeking.

Town’s manager has been after a dominant leader for the heart of their defence and had identified Norwich’s Jens Berthel Askou, 27, as well as Hartlepool skipper and former Swindon loanee Sam Collins, 33.

But having had both players watched - including a personal trip to see Berthel Askou score against Blackburn Rovers in the Carling Cup last Tuesday - Wilson has decided neither man fits the bill and will instead look to a temporary signing when the emergency loan window opens a week today.
