BOWLS: Swindon clubs out in force at Wiltshire Men's competition

SIXTEEN clubs will be represented in the Wiltshire Men’s County Competition quarter and semi-finals being staged this weekend.

The matches were due to be staged at North Wilts Bowls Club on Saturday, September 4 but have been switched instead to the nearby green at Chippenham Town (10am start).

Westlecot have the biggest representation in these four competitions with four entrants while Spencer Moulton have three and there are doubles for Chippenham Town, Salisbury Victoria and Wootton Bassett.

Norman Gould from Salisbury Victoria is the only player in two events. He competes in both the Champion of Champions and Two-Wood Singles.

The draw has been kind to Wootton Bassett as both of their teams have been kept apart in the Over 60s Triples semi-finals.

Mark Ashcroft (Avon) is the only reigning champion taking part and he defends his title in the Unbadged Singles. His opening game is against young 2010 Middleton Cup debutant Kyle Anderson.

Dave Godwin is hoping to go one better in 2010. The Chippenham Town player was beaten in the two-wood singles final last year.

The finals of these four events – Unbadged Singles, Two-Wood Singles, Champion of Champions and Over 60s Triples - will be held at Wootton Bassett on the weekend of September 11 and 12.
