SWINDON and District Men’s Leagues will be represented in this year’s finals day.
A total of 13 clubs will be seeking glory in the finals staged on Saturday, September 11 at Swindon West End Bowling Club, home green of S&D 2010 men’s president Les Cox.
Wootton Bassett have the greatest representation in the championships with four in the nine events – singles, triples, retired singles and Eddie Wells Trophy – while Westlecot and Highworth both compete in two each.
Surprisingly this year none of the finalists will be defending a title although Mike Sawyer (Rodbourne Cheney), who competes in the Champion of Champions final, was victorious last year in the Officers’ Cup.
Keith Hillier (West End) lost to Sawyer in the 2009 Officers Cup final and will be hoping this time around that home green advantage and knowledge works in his favour.
Three players – Dave Matthews (Westlecot), Paul Stokes (Highworth) and Dave Edmonds – compete in two separate finals each.

Meanwhile, the outdoor bowls season is rapidly drawing to a close with the indoor season just around the corner.
Swindon Oasis, the oldest indoor club in the town and second oldest in Wiltshire are marking the new winter season with a special evening for newcomers.
Swindon Oasis Club will hold an open novices evening, next Monday, September 6 from 6-9pm.
The mayor, Coun Rex Barnett, who is a member of the Haydon Wick Club, will open the event by bowling the first wood.
The novices evening is open to people of all ages who are interested in taking up the sport.
Qualified coaches will be on hand to assist and woods supplied.
Participants though are asked to wear smooth-soled trainers or plimsolls and change at the side of the green.
Anybody interested in taking part can turn up but the organisers would prefer in the first instance if they would ring Ken Roe on 01793 853798.
The Oasis Club also have a thriving junior section.
