Gow refutes Town claims

ALAN Gow has denied suggestions his proposed move to Swindon Town fell through because of his own wage demands.

The Scot, formerly of Plymouth Argyle, was said to have agreed personal terms and passed a medical at Town on deadline day before the deal broke down.

After the collapse, the Robins hierarchy branded Gow's conduct " a disgrace", but the forward, now part of the Motherwell set-up in Scotland, has said otherwise.

"I certainly never agreed personal terms," he said.

"I spoke to the manager (Danny Wilson) and he seemed like a nice guy and very experienced as well but the deal that they offered wasn't to be and I decided to move back up the road and sign for Motherwell.

"I've moved up to Scottish football and there's not as much money in Scottish football as there is in English football."

So is he saying that personal terms were NOT discussed, and STFC put him thru a medical etc in the hope he will fit in our wage structure after he's done his sit-ups??

Also, why on earth would our board make such a thing up with nothing to gain? Ludicrous.
.
Disgrace is the right word and the guy has shown himself to be a total waster. I wish him financial ruin....and soon...

No I don't, and more to the point they are fist class upright and correct guys who do not try it on. However Gow was not/is not and deserves a bit of stick which will all disapear once this dust settles.
My wifes family come from Stranraer and the Scots totally despise people such as Gow who try to drag Scots into disrepute. Haggis bashers they may be, but good straight strong and proud they are, cheats have no place north of the border, and the stick they get makes us lot look like Choir Boys. And for the record, it was banter and that was all, and if he conducts himself in this manner then he invites it on himself.

I'm an exiled Scotsman in Swindon since 1961 and I love STFC with all my heart since first going in said year aged 8. I am also a proud Scot who has a Scotland badge on the back of my STFC shirt. But I do not have any time for any player from any nation who does not want to play for my team. Alan Gow gives a Scotsman a bad name, but if his wage demands were so, do you not think he wanted to go back to sunny Scotland any way. Swindon's gain Motherwell's loss. Come on you Reds.

Good post and it was not my mission to offend anybody other than Mr Gow. My apologies to those that I may.
J-PM was my man of the season last year, and when I met GG I was joking about 'tatty scones and clutey dumping, Greer having a very healthy appetite for anything wholesome on a plate !

No offence taken aboot nationality, ye canny help where ye were born. Me Glasgow is the finest city, but i have no allegiance whatsoever to any league team other than the MIGHTY STFC. I'm not prejudiced, but I hate everybody the same. Well except for the local's from Oxon.

The guy regardless of ability obviously has no ambition. Who in their right mind would take a 6 month contract with Motherwell (no disrespect to them) when he was offered a year with us. Just seen him on Sky and he says money was not the issue, so why was he asking for more than that was offered, as he knows he will earn less over the border, so giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe it was more to do with family, if his misses wants to go back home, fair enough he should come out and say so. He has totally embarressed himself with his behaviour and unless he delivers for Motherwell his career is all but over.

I know what you mean, but I did take our sons up to Stranraer a few times to watch some big games in Stair Park. Some of the locals in the stands would make yer eyes water down here. I reckon the refs and linos' must be born deaf with the abuse they get up there. The players have to have broad shoulders as well as some of the remarks are real brilliant but not for here on this forum. All that said some of the footie is good hard and well fought but soccer to a good standard. The tackles are hard but fair but woe betide anyone who steps over the line with a nasty tackle. Good stuff and highly entertaining.
Down the pub after the game and its all good fun, and serious drinking.

You're a bit of a stalker on the quiet aren't you! Weren't you sharing your experience of successfully stalking Will Evans the other day?! And you live in the same town as me!
I reckon you're that old fella who wears the tatty suits & hangs around the players entrance after every home game - actually you can't be, you're an articulate fella & I very much doubt that he is....

"I've moved up to Scottish football and there's not as much money in Scottish football as there is in English football."

It seems this guy is all about the money. Shouldn't he be talking about a chance to prove himself, first team football etc?

I know that most of us are motivated by money and would seek a payrise if the question was there to be asked, but this guy is a footballer. He's either too honest or completely stupid.

ST MIRREN yesterday failed in a last-ditch bid to sign former Rangers striker Alan Gow.

Buddies boss Danny Lennon had been in hot pursuit of the 27-year-old frontman for the past fortnight but missed out last night as Gow signed for Motherwell instead.

Lennon had made Gow a top target but was left frustrated as the player stalled on agreeing a deal with the Buddies.

The Saints manager even claimed the former Clydebank, Airdrie and Falkirk forward was keeping Saints as his “last resort” as he went in search of a better offer.

And, as the transfer window slammed shut on Tuesday night, it looked as though Lennon’s attempts had been finally scuppered when Gow passed a medical at English League One outfit Swindon Town.

But Robins boss Danny Wilson was left fuming when the Scotland B cap suddenly hiked up his wage demands.

That opened the door for Lennon to make one last move for Gow but it proved to be a fruitless attempt as the player called him to say he will not be moving to Paisley, with Motherwell later announcing they had won the race for his signature.
