Wilson: Carlisle is as tough a trip as there is

WHILE Carlisle’s impressive start to their League One campaign may have taken some people by surprise, Swindon manager Danny Wilson is not one of them.

The Cumbrians are currently unbeaten and sit third in an embryonic table, after finding the substance to match their style over the close season.

And Wilson is well aware that Town’s trip to Brunton Park is an even tougher prospect than normal.

“Carlisle haven’t surprised me at all because, particularly at home, they have always been fairly strong,” he said.

“It’s not really a surprise that they win home games. It’s a very tough place to go and we’ve had some very difficult encounters there - I certainly have over the last few years.

“This particular season they have collected the results to go with decent performances and that will give them huge confidence, but make it even more of a tough task for us.

“If we can replicate what we did on Tuesday and take it up there with the same attitude and application that we showed, and really respect Carlisle like we did Southampton, then I would expect us to come away with a result.”

David Prutton returns to the squad having served a one-match suspension, and he could take the place of Jonathan Douglas in the middle of the park.

Town’s skipper was forced off in the early stages of Tuesday’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash with Southampton, but Wilson is keeping his fingers crossed that the Irishman could be fit.

“We are hoping that Jonathan will be okay for the weekend,” he said.

“He had very tight hamstrings so we took him off as a precaution, and hopefully it hasn’t turned into anything more serious than that.”

Too right this is going to be a tough game but if we can play with the same vigour and determination as we did against Southampton then for sure we're heading in the right direction.

Interested to see what changes DW will make - or will he go with the winning team again, minus JD injured.

C'mon Big Vince - take the weight off Charlie's shoulders and bang 'em in!

Hopefully prutton being suspended and then JD being possibly injured will show Wilson that they can't really play together, we have the league one equivalent to the gerrard/lampard situation for England

Prutton back in, so Danny says. Oh dear, I would have left things as they so successfully were at Southampton. It will be intresting to see how Prutton/Ferry relationship goes. Very hopefull of at least a point, and at least a goal for Vinnie.

Would rather see Prutton/Ferry relationship than Prutton/Douglas.

I'd prefer to Evans to be given a start instead of JD or Prutton - I think he deserves it after his performance on Tuesday

Joeyeah,
Agree with your sentements. Will Evans deserves and try at this level. He is never going to know his inner strengths until he is pitched up against a more formidable opposition.
Will was VERY good against Saints so why not give him a chance,

Just read on BBC that JD and Prutton are "liikely" to start, if thats the case I'm not so confident. I'd like to see Evans and Ferry for the first half, to see how they get on, then make a change only if necessary. I'm trying to be positive but as yet we've not seen a performance from JD and Prutton that we can be confident about. Yes its going to be a hard match, but was Saints game any easier ???
