SWINDON TOWN: 'The next six games will shape the season'

TOWN boss Danny Wilson is targeting “three or four results” from their next six games in order to believe his side have finally turned the corner on their stuttering season.

After achieving a first win of the campaign at the sixth attempt on Tuesday night against Southampton in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, Swindon are now looking to take that level of performance into League One action.

They travel to unbeaten Carlisle tomorrow, but Wilson insists it is too early to tell whether their early season woes have been consigned to history.

“We’ll see that as we go along,” he said. “I don’t think you will be able to tell after Carlisle at all.

“We’ve got a clutch of games coming up now which, if we can get a run of three or four results from the next six, then you can say we are on our way forward.

“We just want to start creeping back up the league. We’re not cut adrift by any stretch of the imagination.

“If you look around at the divisions, I would like to see where the promoted teams were at this stage or even after 10 games. You’ll be quite surprised at the position some teams were in.

“So I’m not concerned about it at this moment in time, and what we are striving for is consistency.”

Meanwhile, Wilson has paid tribute to striker Thomas Dossevi after the Togo international put club before country to turn out at Brunton Park tomorrow.

The 31-year-old was called up for an African Cup of Nations qualifier away at Botswana, but has decided to stay put in a bid to break into the Town starting line-up.

Wilson said: “Thomas is going to stay with us, which is a boost for us going away from home to have another striker in the ranks.

“What pleased me was his commitment to us, and not wanting to go and play for a national team.

“That can be a big pull for players but he’s decided he wants to try and cement himself in the club here and learn the English football way.”

Yes a few results will work wonders.Lets hope VP has turned the corner, as I have allways said skills do not just vanish. Must admit after the run in last season and the start of this I thought back to 1972 where we just avoided the drop.
I feel many of us had set the heights to high and when you think of the wholesale chanes last season it will take tome.Good result Tuesday and something to build on.
So good luck on Sat Town

A relatively meanigless victory in the lower league trophy will count for nothing if we continue to underperform in the league.. Another performance on saturday please..

Quite suprised that Prutton is back in for JD on Saturday. Yes a string of results will count for a lot and lets all hope that happens. Don't tinker too much Danny, if its winning games it aint broke, so please don't try to fix it.

There never was any chance that the same starting 11 as played at Southampton would start at Carlilse.Tough game in prospect, we will do well to get a point, good time for big Vince to open his league account for us.

I'm going for 1-0 again. A clean sheet on Tuesday will have done wonders, combined with Carlisle loosing Harte will work in our favour. Still a tough game and will prob settle for a point but think we can take all 3.

To say the next six games will shape the season is something of an understatement. If we accumulate points at the same rate so far, we'll be on five points after 10 games. That's bottom of the table form.

Don't understand the Adver's use of the word 'stuttering'. It refers to defective speech and the inability to form words. Even allowing for misuse, I would hardly say that Swindon's season has been stop-start - it hasn't even started yet.

Let's hope for a Pericard hat-trick against his old club. But I'll be disappointed if Prutton goes straight back into the team, Douglas or no Douglas. The guy is a liability.

Interesting use of language from DW. I would prefer him to talk directly about wins and winning rather than results - this is what breeds a winning mentality and in my humble opinion he should be targetting 6 wins in the next 6 whilst settling for a result (a draw) for the tougher games. Otherwise it sounds like it's OK to lose a couple which isn't the mindset players should be in.

adver say somewhere, that he might be in for jd, who is trying to be fit for this weekend. dossevi is looking like a great signing. initially it raised an eyebrow. as we tend to buy ex celtic and leeds lads. but he seems dedicated to the red and white cause. i reckon loads of goals this weekend. think we'll grab a 3.3 draw. not seen us play this year. would like to know what people think of cuthbert and morrison partnership. do we need another cb?? can't wait for plym and exeter away. deffo going CG this month as soon as i get paid. long trip from devon on the train

agree. but tbh look at our next 6 games.
carlisle (pace setters)
saints (should've finished close to us)
walsall (doing ok, but even though it is away. we should win)
huddersfield. big spenders.
plym. championship last season
dag red. should win.

i think 3 draws by 3 wins looks tough. let alone 5/6 wins

We do need another CB, but that will have to wait for the emergency loans to kick in.We could also do with another winger to complete the squad.Cuthbert/ Morrison is an OK partnership, but the goals conceded are not just down to them or the back 4 in general, our midfield has lacked shape, and discipline which has also significantly contributed to our shaky start to the season.Notwithstandi
ng an excellent result at St.Mary's midweek, those problems still exist, and you can be sure that it will be a radically different starting eleven at Carlilse on Saturday, at the moment a draw would be a good result.

our loan players were key last year. shame Ward can not come back, when i watched the play off games, i was impressed with AOB's pace. it does seem to be the position where we don't have much options

I've just read a report on the BBC STFC V Carlisle jobbie and according to that both JD and Prutton are likely to start. Why oh why and not Ferry only the late great JC may be able to tell us. Sorry lads I'm airing frustration here, but WHY on earth is he sticking with Prutton when we all know it doesn't flippin' work. Believe me I want us to go there and come away with a good performance, a point would be good, and three would be great. So we have a good game against Saints, good guys on the park, hard work, played a system that many on here have been BEGGING him to play, and now it looks like we are stepping backwards. NUUUUURRRGGGGhhhhhh, Sorry for the rant, just want us to do well, very well and cannot see this JD/Prutton thing working, not yet a while anyway. Rant over chaps, I'll go and make some tea. Having a mare today and reading that made it worse, think I'd better take a CHILL pill or 7 or 8.

Ferry has to play!

He brings so much to the team - Southampton is a classic example.

Surely he can't be dropped for Prutton. Especially after how he played in the week.

For me he's a far greater energetic and dynamic player.

Many of us feel the same about Dougie and Prutton playing together.Dougie and Ferry works much better.
I think (and hope) that Ferry will start saturday and if Prutton starts then we will see a formation to accomodate Dougie,Ferry and Prutton.

If Prutton would be a bit more dynamic in support of the strikers, leaving Douglas to do the foraging further back, I think they can play in the same team. But Prutton clearly has some way to go to convince many of us he's suited to that role. Last season's Ward/Douglas/Ferry/M
cGovern combination was notable for its energy. I know I'll get blasted for being negative but I haven't seen that dynamism from Prutton.

NO, I don't think you are being negative, I think you are telling it as it is. We know what you are trying to point out here, and you are RIGHT.
I remeber at the home play off match so many of us saying that had it been offered in September we would have took it, and so many saying that our mid field had been the engine room of the team. This season it looks like said engine needs an oil change and throttle linkage adjusting. Hopefully mechanic Wilson has the manual to fix it.

Den,

I think that we ALL are more or less agreed on this subject, and it seems that addin cover has muddied the selection process. I did see Prutton play well against Forest, so I know he can play well, but how did they balance it at Leeds, nobody seems to know on here.
I'm told Timlin played well at St Marys and put in some real good crosses\passes into the Saints goal area.

Danny Wilson is targeting “three or four results” from their next six games in order to believe his side have finally turned the corner????..

Hope you right danny but looking at the season so far we have a lot of work to do, and that is just getting the 4mation worked out
(and STOP PLAYING HOOFBALL...)
So if we only pick up 6 points from 18..
I wonder what DW will say about that??

I'm with Grimreaper here, game should have been called off as squad is too small.
Its not just about a few international call-ups, we need more cover to allow for players to develop and for drops in form. We really miss some key players from last season, Ward, Paynter, Shehan, Darby and yes much as it grieves me to admit, Greer, because he might have been an idiot at times but he led the line.
I think Danny has brought in some good players but they will take time to develop and fit in, and clearly the likes of Rose and Prutton are struggling. Ferry will come good but again we need to avoid putting pressure on him.
I also seem to be the only one on these posts who remembers we've got strategic alliances. Not much has come of those eh? I've been thinking, if we need a left back, centre half, a creative midfielder and striker, isn't Bridge, Lescott, Robinho and Adebayor free?
In all seriousness, I didn't think it right to go ahead with this game at Carlisle but it is, so COME ON YOU REDZZZZZ and I predict the return of, and rising stardom of VP. The new Paynter.

We signed Sheehan days ago, and if you are with Reaper then you are in bad.......d company as he is a Scumford fan. The lads that are away, all two of them are well covered, and if you were any kind of up to date fan you would also know this subject has been well covered. Obviously you are not or you would know that.
A good weatherd day like today is far prefable to a cold winter Tuesday night under floodlights, especially when we may have more players injured than two by that time of the season.

Oxford lost 0-2 to Aldershot I hear, hmmmmmmmm gooooooooood, long may it continue.

Like it. Dossevi isn't goin away on international duty and Bodin probably wouldn't of even made the squad, which leaves Caddis. He hasn't impressed me with his defending so big Kev in the back line would not make it any weaker. I would prefer Caddis on the right side of midfield to be honest and i think he will replace JP when he is no longer good enough.
