Patchett: Robins' season is not over yet

GARY Patchett insists Swindon’s season is “not over yet” as the Robins prepare for their Elite League meeting at Wolverhampton tonight.

The Blunsdon outfit cannot either make the play-offs or go into the relegation race-off but they still have four league meetings to race, as well as at least one Knockout Cup fixture.

That state of affairs was brought about by a dismal run of form in July and August that saw Ronnie Russell’s men slide out of play-off contention.

But Swindon co-owner Patchett told the Advertiser: “Our season’s not over yet.

“We want to finish as high as possible and we’ve still got a bearing on what happens in the play-off race.”

When Swindon made the trip to Monmore Green in July they went down in a 50-42 defeat, and not one side has defeated Wolves on their own track in the league this season.

Patchett added: “If we had gone there with Thomas Jonasson last time we might well have turned them over.

“We ran them close and the rider who replaced Jonasson got nought points, but if he had got three or four then that could have been the difference.”

Both sides have major injury headaches ahead of tonight’s meeting.

Wolverhampton number one Freddie Lindgren is out injured, and the hosts are also sweating on the fitness of skipper Tai Woffinden and Ty Proctor, who all crashed in Thursday’s clash between the sides at the Abbey Stadium.

Meanwhile, Swindon will check up on Simon Stead this morning as the Sheffield-born rider has been ill for the last few days, but captain Leigh Adams will return to the fold after missing the draw at Lakeside for personal reasons.
