DANNY Wilson has labelled Southampton’s on-going managerial saga as “absolutely crazy” - and heaped the pressure on whoever eventually takes over at St Mary’s.
Alan Pardew was sacked from the south coast club less than a fortnight ago on the back of a 4-0 win which brought chairman Nicola Cortese under fire from fans and pundits.
And as the sides face each other in League One action at the County Ground tomorrow, Wilson believes Southampton’s early-season struggles can be put down to their upheaval behind the scenes.
“It’s crazy - absolutely crazy,” Swindon’s manager told the Advertiser.
“If you’re going to make a decision then make it in the summertime.
“Why wait until this time if you’re not going to get on with your manager or whatever reason it was?
“What is the point in waiting around, because this is what happens - it unsettles them.
“This could go on longer and I hope it does - I hope it goes on a few more games and they don’t get wins.
“Certainly I think there is a better and more sensible way of doing things, but that’s the way some people work and it’s not my place to tell them how to run their business and their clubs.”
Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins appeared to be heading for the Saints’ hotseat yesterday until a dispute broke out over compensation, and it now looks as though caretaker manager Dean Wilkins will remain in charge for this weekend’s clash.
But Wilson warned Pardew’s eventual successor that they can not afford to make any mistakes at a club desperate to climb back up the football ladder.
“It is a fantastic football club, a big football club, and whoever goes in there will not only be in charge of an ambitious club but the expectation level is sky-high,” said Wilson of Southampton.
“There’s no room for mistakes quite honestly. They have to go in there straight away and get results. That is the pressure that comes with the size of that job.
“But with the squad they’ve got they are more than capable of achieving that.”

Do we really need an essay on this page about how great Southampton's chairman is??? Surely the Daily Echo has a similar section. I notice they are also running an article about how a 'little' club like Bournemouth have a manager who has just turned down the chance of taking over as manager at St Marys!

First posting is from a Saints Fan who says, (I quote) 'this is turning into a farce!'.
Short and sweet!

I wonder if Danny Wilson is feeling the pressure himself. Overlooked for the Saints post after 3 wins on the spin and yet so far this season in the league Swindon have done worse than Saints. I think he is a very worried man. There are a lot of good managers out there !!!

Considering how prolonged it was to finally appoint Wilson, we are in no position to say anything. it would be calling the kettle calling the pot black.
Concentrate on the game and good luck to both clubs in the long run.

Wilson was asked a question and he answered it. I don't think he telephoned the Advertiser and said "I want a press conference because the Southampton situation is absolutely crazy".
Good grief.

Who care's about what's happening at Southampton. Wilson needs to stay focused and keep the team focused. Three points tomorrow is a must. Whatever it takes we need to win. If we have to ditch "pretty-pretty" football so be it! COYR!!

With regard to saints situation - I could not care less about it. With regard to wilsons comments about it? I could not care less. The adver running a story like this? Predictable. Will it have any bearing on tomorrows match? Of course not. Get a grip people.

Med Red, I think that you are very correct, Saints will be very much on the UP for this game. Its not going to be as easy as many think, and for more than a few anything less than a win will not be acceptable. Wilsons words could come back on him, I really hope they don't though, we need this win, badly.

Agree with the rest of your post, it would be hard to drop Morrison, Sheehan will be first choice LB, Prutton may still prove to be an assett, but IMO he will not automatically win back the shirt as long as Ferry does the business. Rose has blown his chance at LB, he'll either go back to the North or convert to left mid-field
Mcnamee poor on wet pitches, awesome on dry. Pericard likely to enjoy the heavier pitches as is dossevi and Morrison. Dw great manager, fit ton is the kiddy too. To me only two mistakes, that's all. Playing and persisting with prutton and rose. Now we have sheehan , Kennedy and super ferry animal we will be difficult to break down again. Whether u like it or not Morrison is the future....

I'm finding it hard to understand why so many on the forum being concerned as to Danny's response to the South Coast team's manager situation. he is in the union and obviously doesn't like to see fellow managers sacked, albeit on this occassion he would seemed to be mis-informed As one of the Saints posters mentioned, most of us were not aware he was sh****g his players partners and the team refused to play for him. Even before this knowledge many of our posters said he was a sleeze-ball, now it's confirmed, it's SCT problem not ours, IMO their chairman took the correct action, there is no place in any business for that type of behaviour. On another note I bought one of my grandson's a ticket for tomorrows match, the Arkle stand where I have my season ticket is sold-out both for us and SCM, they have already taken additional 1,000 for Stratton Bank, but I was told by ticket office they will also be allowed to but tickets on the day. IMO they are some of the better visitors to the CG, so I'm looking forward to both teams playing the game in the right spirit, would expect something in the region of 13,000 - 14,000 tomorrow. On another point bought my concession £5 for the Torquay game, free for my grandson (under sixteen), fantastic value, would urge as many as possible to take their kids, should be a good game as Torquay are playing very well so far this season. (by the way if memory serves me right, we had luck on our side against them in round 1 or 2 of the 1969 league cup triumph), was it 4-3 we scrapped through or was that Bradford. Come on O@Den help me out

Like many of us we want our team to win and start playing again the football that will ensure survival let alone promotion.
In one breadth I think DW's recruiting methods are a bit naff as to time it takes to actually get bodieis on the playing staff. Yet he has proved us wrong many many times. My only fear is come mid/end Oct he has not brought in decent players who he is targeting we will suffer.
The team we have aint that bad but it's the old story the CB and striker were never really relaced.
Make no bones I want the Town to succeed but many of us I guess winge on mainley out of frustration.
All we need now is for AF not to have confidence in DW then we would have major problems
Good luck sat Town
