PENHILL Amateur Boxing Club’s super heavyweight Peter Richards was recently in action for the first time in a year.
He travelled to Gwent in Wales were he took on the much taller Kristian Smith from host club Blaenau Gwent ABC.
Richards kept the fight at close range in the first round, catching Smith with short uppercuts and left hooks.
In the second round the Penhill youngster kept the pressure on, counterpunching and catching Smith with straight left hand punches.
In the final round Smith started to tire and Richards made him pay for his mistakes as he won on a majority points decision.
Head coach Simon Knowles said: “Peter did everything he was told to do and it was a very exciting bout, so well done Peter.”
