LEE Peacock has warned his colleagues to be on their guard today against a striker once heavily tipped to join the Town ranks.

Stockport County recently added former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ipswich Town forward Adam Proudlock to their squad.

Peacock, pictured left, and Proudlock were colleagues and competitors for starting slots at Sheffield Wednesday before going their separate ways.

The former believes the latter will provide Town's defenders with one of their toughest tests to date.

Proudlock has struggled for fitness and form in recent times but that shouldn't mean he is taken lightly.

Peacock, who yesterday expressed a desire to extend his County Ground stay, said: "Proudy's had a bad time with injuries, this and that.

"He's got frightening ability though, no question.

"He's got enough in his locker to frighten anyone.

"Adam's a big lad, strong, powerful and lightning quick.

"He'll be a tough test for our lads but in the games we've had so far they've shown they can deal with it (opposing strikers).

"Hopefully things will turn around for Proudy, after Saturday of course."

And should Proudlock prove a problem or indeed if anything is not going to plan, Peacock knows the message from the home bench will be delivered loud and clear.

Dennis Wise is not a manager to simply observe and then have an input at half-time.

Peacock said: "The gaffer won't let anyone slip.

"He and Gus have got a constant flow of information on to the pitch.

"It doesn't take until half time to get it sorted. It gets sorted right after something happens."

Stockport boss Jim Gannon hopes Proudlock can be the man to help his team hit the winning trail.

He said: "Adam has played all his football at a higher level and it's easy to see why.

"He will prove to be a great asset."

Town's reserves are back in action next week when they make the trip to Weymouth in the Pontins Combination on Tuesday night (7pm).

David Lee's side opened their second string campaign with a 2-2 draw against Yeovil at Swindon Supermarine's Hunts Copse ground.
