BRITAIN’S world heavyweight champion David Haye has called on the services of Swindon boxing coach Paddy Fitzpatrick to help him plot victory over Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko next weekend.

The Haye-Klitschko world heavyweight unification fight is one of the most highly-anticipated bouts for years and now Swindon’s Fitzpatrick will be right in the thick of the action.

Fitzpatrick got the call to join Haye’s training camp from the boxer’s coach Adam Booth after the pair worked together in the lead-up to George Groves’ British and Commonwealth victory over James DeGale.

For the last few weeks Fitzpatrick has been travelling back and forth to Haye’s London-based gym to help with the final preparations for the big fight.

“I worked with Adam Booth for the George Groves fight and Adam has asked me to work with him again for the David Haye fight,” said Fitzpatrick, who flies out to Germany where the fight takes place tomorrow.

“For the last few weeks I have been travelling up and down to London to help finalise things. I obviously can’t say too much but I’ve been watching a lot of Wladimir Klitschko’s fights and helping to work out how we can beat him.

“Obviously I put forward my opinion to Adam and so far he has agreed with my view. We did the same for the George Groves fight and it worked well and we got the right results there. Hopefully this will work out the same.”

The fight itself is Haye’s biggest test to date and victory over Klitschko, who has won his last 13 fights, could see him go down in British boxing history as one of the greats.

And Fitzpatrick says he is so confident Haye will beat Klitschko that he will have a few pounds on him winning.

“It’s not if, it’s when David Haye wins,” said Fitzpatrick. “I am totally convinced he will win and I intend to have a bet on that.

“We have a game plan, Adam and David have had this in place for the last four years. We know what Wladimir is going to throw at us - he will do what he always does. He is so refined in what he does, he cannot change. We have a plan for every outcome.

“Everyone knows both boxers can knock each other out but if we get to Wladimir early on then he will not know what to do, he has no ‘Plan B’.

“I also think Wladimir does not have the bond between trainer and boxer that Adam and David have. If David does get into trouble, he has someone to turn to, someone he trusts one hundred per cent and he will come back stronger - I don’t think Wladimir has that, so we can get to him emotionally.

“This is my first training camp with David and he is in phenomenal shape and 100 per cent ready for this fight. David can knock out Wladimir and I think he will.”
