MICHAEL Timlin’s time at Swindon may not have ended as he would have liked, but the midfielder insists he is not out to prove a point against his former side tonight.

The 26-year-old had initially looked like playing a key role for Town under Paolo Di Canio and he started the first game of the season against Crewe.

But after that, Timlin was sent out on loan to Southend before a permanent move was agreed earlier this month.

Timlin made 135 appearances for Swindon during a four-year spell before falling out of favour under Di Canio.

“It’s all water under the bridge now and I don’t hold any grudges towards anyone at Swindon,” he said.

“I would say I was more disappointed than angry by how things ended there because at the start I was one of only a few players who 100 per cent committed to Di Canio and his ways.

“I would like to think I’ve gone on to show I’m a good player and what happened at Swindon wasn’t to do with football. But I enjoyed my time there, even though I don’t think I played as well I could’ve done, and would really love Southend to win the league this season with Swindon also getting promotion.”

Timlin was forced to sit out Blues’ two previous meetings against the Robins this season as he was still on loan from the Wiltshire club.

But, having now made the switch to Roots Hall permanent, he is finally free to face Di Canio’s team. And Timlin is eager to take all three points at Roots Hall.

“Both teams need a result as they’re going for promotion and it’s a massive match so hopefully we can come out on top,” he added. “It was frustrating not being able to play in the other two matches against Swindon and the team didn’t really show what we could do in those games either.

“Hopefully this time it will be different.”
