Town's efforts praised despite postponement

Nick Watkins praises club's efforts Nick Watkins praises club's efforts

SWINDON Town chief executive Nick Watkins has hailed the 'fantastic effort' by volunteers and the club's staff after they worked through the night to try and ensure today's game against Burton went ahead.

The club yesterday invested in a heated dome while heating blowers were placed around the pitch to ensure frost did not set in.

However, around 30 per cent of the pitch was deemed unplayable by the referee at a 10am inspection this morning, and consquently the game was called off.

But regardless of the outcome, Watkins was delighted with the efforts of those who tried to ensure the game had the best chance possible of going ahead.

“I cannot thank the team enough," he told the Advertiser.

"(stadium manager) Mark Isaacs and his maintenance team, the groundsman and the volunteers all worked through the night to get the game on.

“Consequently it is devastating for them to have the game cancelled at the last minute.

“But it was a fantastic effort and I think it typifies Swindon Town and what we are trying to do to get games on.

“We can’t beat nature, we can try and beat the opposition but we can’t beat nature.”

Shame the game wasn't on. However im sure that the effort was mainly to ensure the game is on on Tuesday as that's the main game money wise.

Superb effort by everyone who tried to get the game on, shame it isnt, but now we have a rest prior to the JPT

I think the grounds staff do an amazing job at the County Ground. The pitch is taken pride in and always looks great even late on into the season. They must be a great team too - well done to all of you guys and thank you for all the brilliant work you do to make sure the players have a good surface to play on.

As a season ticket holder I thought I would book my Tuesday tickets this afternoon before the match. Obviously not now. Tried to book online but it does not appear to work for season ticket holders booking their allocated seats. Tried phoning but told too busy to handle calls. Are we losing business because we have not got the admin structure. Help

Maybe something to do with the away derby game going on sale today!!
I would have thought business would have been brisk today.

Though you feel for the people that froze in a queue at the CG while they were entertaining people sat in their nice cosy centrally heated houses on the other end of the phone!!!!

They were very busy earlier selling tickets for the pox game , some people were hanging on the phone for up to 2 hours. However that game is now sold out so you may get lucky with the phone.

Well done and very hard luck to everyone that tried to ensure the game was played. Those people that worked through the night must be devestated, we fans are disapointed but those folk must be shattered.
A big pat on the back goes to the board and everyone trying to get the game on, well done for your efforts .

It says on web page 5:30 today
However having worked with a company that operated a call centre the call receiving company get a bonus from BT for calls received. I don't begrudge any money ST get so 2 hour calls are just what they need.

You've had Weeks to get tickets. Oxford tickets went on sale yesterday and you expected to get through? I hardly think this is club's fault.
