Freezing temperatures put Barnet fixture in doubt

SWINDON Town's League Two fixture with Barnet could be doubt with temperatures set to plummet well below freezing from tomorrow.

Early forecasts indicate that temperatures could drop to -6 tomorrow and while Barnet have the Underhill pitch under covers, they are unlikely to be effective against those conditions.

It is likely Barnet will hold a pitch inspection tomorrow to determine how likely the fixture is to go ahead.

I live in North London and the council have just been around laying grit on the roads, for them to do that they must be pretty sure snow is on the way.

It wont be on. ID put a bet on that. They don't have the money to hire any sort of heated dome so there is no way some sheets will prevent the pitch freezing.

Heated domes are proven failure so we've saved them the expense! Someone buy a hair dryer - that will do the job

Prove failure when theres not enough heaters underneath it!

a little bit of snow won't hurt, it will be the temperature drop, followed by frost getting under the covers which will be the deciding facture if the game goes ahead

Aye, they work if you are given the right amount of heaters and not left short handed.

I wonder what steps (if any) we are making to ensure the Crawley game will go ahead, I would have thought we would need to start planning now rather than wait until it is too late and the frost is set in.

Definite fixture congestion starting now. At least bar the JPT final there's no more cup games to add any extra pressure.

Also the prospect of Barnet away on a Tuesday night again is not great.

I agree. This game will be off. The temperature on Friday night is expected to be -8 again. Not even our pitch sustained that severe frost.

As for Crawley, this game should be OK. The overnight temperatures are expected to creep up from Sunday ,but the danger will be whether or not the snow we get melts

Posted on this last night/this morning as we're due to go to my Sister's near Stevenage Saturday so only a stones throw from Barnet. Given the type of pitch they have, not too good in bad conditions means highly likely to be postponed as per most.

I'd quoted on the fact that with two games to be re-arranged plus more than likely Barnet on Saturday then although a better chance, even Tues v Crawley it starts to get squeaky as when you look at the few mid-week dates we have left - only 6 and 3 or 4 games to be fitted in.

Sucessful squad rotation system will pay HUGE dividends compared to others.
