BALLYMAC Cryan claimed a sensational victory in last night’s Ladbrokes Mobile Arc Final for Swindon trainer Matt Dartnall.

Running from trap two at Blunsdon’s Abbey Stadium, Ballymac Cryan broke well from the traps only to fall behind early pace setter Droopys Loner.

However, Ballymac Cryan made his move on the final straight, moving inside Droopys Loner to win by half a length in a time of 28.47.

Last night’s victory netted Matt Dartnall the £8,000 first prize and also put to bed the frustration of last year’s final when Jolly Poacher pipped him and Glenard Sunrise to the title.

A delighted Dartnall said: “It’s brilliant to get one up on last year.

“We’re over the moon with how he’s run throughout the competition.

“We knew he had the potential to win, but to actually get there is brilliant, we’re delighted.

“This is the second Ladbrokes competition we’ve won this year (after the Golden Jacket with Blue Bee).

“I think we’re making this a bit of a habit!”

Ballymac Cryan’s win capped off a brilliant night’s racing at Swindon Stadium, which featured seven other opens live on Sky Sports.

And Dartnall had double reason to celebrate when Ballymac Pet claimed a convincing victory in the earlier 685m event.

Ballymac Pet was the favourite for the race and lived up to her rating, setting the pace to lead the field from start to finish in a time of 41.41.

The rest of the Sky card provided thrilling viewing and another success for local dog Wise Totty.

Wise Totty, who was backed heavily during the day, made it a trap-to-line success in the 8pm race.

Totty trapped well to lead early on but was challenged all the way, eventually just beating Romeo Causeway by a short head in a time of 45.26.

Other winners on the card included former track record holder Mark My Words in the penultimate Sky race, sprinting star Lil Risky, and one of the top marathon stars in the country Aero Gaga.
