Caddis back within the week

Swindon Advertiser: Caddis back within the week Caddis back within the week

SWINDON skipper Paul Caddis could be fit to face Northampton on Easter Monday, Paolo Di Canio has confirmed.

The Scot had been an ever present for Town this season until he injured his ankle in the 4-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge at the start of March.

It had been hoped that he would be fit to play in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final with Chesterfield on March 25, but aggravated the injury in training just days before the Wembley fixture.

However, since then Caddis’ recovery has gone better than expected and while tonight’s trip to Barnet is too early for him, Di Canio is confident he will be back for the last six games of the season.

“Paul is in a very good way,” he said. “I don’t want to risk him now but he is much, much better.

“We want to wait a bit more because if he plays tonight or Friday he does not maybe have the confidence for a very hard game and then we risk losing him for the rest of the season.

“If we rest him for these coming two games then we could have him for the crucial six-game period at the end of the season.”

Di Canio confirmed that Nathan Thompson will travel with the squad to Barnet today and the young fullback could well step in for Caddis after he himself returned from injury recently.

“Nathan had an injury and was out for 12 days but he has been back training for over a week,” added Di Canio.

“He will travel with us tonight and he can play his part. I don’t promise anything to anyone but we will see what is going on.”

Good to see Thompson back in the running. And fabulous news about Caddis. Di Canio spot on not to risk him too soon, but let's hope for six points before he's back in the side for Monday, then we should be in great shape. Tough game tonight on an awful pitch against a desperate side. No injuries please, and three points!

Spot on California. I would like to see a natural right back in the team - if this is the reason we have Thompson on the books, then he deserves his chance at some point.

Crucial to get him back. Without Caddis Ritchie is half the player so with Paul's return we get 1.5 players back!

Were not the same fluent side without Caddis and it has affected Ritchies game as well without him so the sooner the better to get him back in the side.

Can't wait to have a fully fir Paul Caddis back on the pitch. He's an inspiration for others around him, a calming influence and, as others have said, really complements Ritchie - together, those two pose a real attacking threat. See you v Northampton, Paul!

Would agree though I thought that MR had a good start on Sat against Rovers and did look back to his old self, up until he got kicked off the park!

Great news to have Paul back soon. We have not been the sames side without him. I admit that I was not a Caddis fan at the start of the season. He has gone on to prove me wrong (well wrong) and am happy to eat humble pie as a result. Hopefully 3 points tonight. Will be interesting who PDC plays upfront tonight. Benson/Connell for me.

Will be great to get him back. For tonight I wonder if Paolo will start with Thompson so that we have a better attacking balance. Joe has played well and might go back to CB so that Flint isn't asked to play all of the next 4 matches following his groin problem. Think we will need to start on the front foot to win the game.
