Caddis back within the week
SWINDON skipper Paul Caddis could be fit to face Northampton on Easter Monday, Paolo Di Canio has confirmed.
The Scot had been an ever present for Town this season until he injured his ankle in the 4-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge at the start of March.
It had been hoped that he would be fit to play in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final with Chesterfield on March 25, but aggravated the injury in training just days before the Wembley fixture.
However, since then Caddis’ recovery has gone better than expected and while tonight’s trip to Barnet is too early for him, Di Canio is confident he will be back for the last six games of the season.
“Paul is in a very good way,” he said. “I don’t want to risk him now but he is much, much better.
“We want to wait a bit more because if he plays tonight or Friday he does not maybe have the confidence for a very hard game and then we risk losing him for the rest of the season.
“If we rest him for these coming two games then we could have him for the crucial six-game period at the end of the season.”
Di Canio confirmed that Nathan Thompson will travel with the squad to Barnet today and the young fullback could well step in for Caddis after he himself returned from injury recently.
“Nathan had an injury and was out for 12 days but he has been back training for over a week,” added Di Canio.
“He will travel with us tonight and he can play his part. I don’t promise anything to anyone but we will see what is going on.”
