Crouch conquers at Cirencester

SHRIVENHAM Park golfer John Crouch was the winner of the recent Cirencester Seniors Open Tournament, as he beat off competition from the 139-strong field to take the Eric Cole Bowl.

Crouch’s victory had looked unlikely when he took a provisional ball from the 18th, but he rescued a par to finish on 39 points.

Cirencester’s John Moss, also with 39 points, placed top of Division One on his seniors debut. That score included an eagle on the downhill par five third.

Host club vice-captain John Davis was second in Division One with 37 points the same as third-placed Ian Disney from Frilford Heath in Oxfordshire.

Bob Cookson from Bowood topped Division Two with 39 and Bob Allen and Francis Sheppard from Cirencester were second and third.

Another Bowood member, Tom Clarke, was awarded the Ted Davis Trophy for the best over 70s score. He racked up 38 points, one ahead of Cirencester seniors captain John Thurston.

Cirencester were well-beaten 4.5-1.5 at Burford a day previously.
