SWINDON TOWN: Navarro reports premature

SWINDON Town are interested in free agent Alan Navarro but any potential deal is far from being done, the Advertiser understands.

The midfielder, whose contract with Brighton was not renewed this summer, is believed to have spoken with the Robins with a view to a contract at the County Ground in recent weeks but reports that he is set to become Town’s first signing of the close season appear to be premature.

Navarro took to Twitter on Thursday morning to reveal his surprise at suggestions he will become Swindon manager Paolo Di Canio’s first acquisition since the end of last term.

He wrote: “Wow just woke up 2 a lot of swindon fans saying I'm signing, where as this come from, I hope its true, can some1 tell me this has been said.”

He hopes it true - then lets make it true!
.
He would be a great signing and add the steele and experience we need in the centre of the park

He does sound a decent signing having spent the last year getting games for a decent championship side with the previous 3 having been at clubs near the top of L1 (Brighton, MK Dons)

It was YOU who started this rumour and it just snowballed on every forum.

London can you give me a resume of his strengths and weaknesses please? Where he plays in midfield? I'm failing to reach your excitement about a player released by the MK Dons. Happy to be persuaded though so fire away....

I'm surprised Navarro only woke up today learning the news that Swindon was interested when the Brighton fans have been talking about this all week !!!

If he does really wants to join STFC then he should move on his wages to push it through.

Have been told by several Brighton fans that they would like him to stay but know he will be leaving whatever happens.

Don't blame LR for this. it was reported on the sports news in the Adver this morning as an almost done deal.

If he wants to play for us and live in swindon thats enough for me, he's easily good enough for league 1 and a great acquisition!

Meant to say reported on the local radio not the adver. Was repeated at 4.30 pm without qualification

I know thats Connell, Benson, Rooney, Holmes and now probably Navarro!

Hopefully my pick Nathan Clarke will be this rumoured experienced CB coming in on another thread

Dreams - wouldn't look at who released him as a guide - we released Brian Howard who went on to be one of the best players outside the Premierhip!
.
Navarro is a CM who is vastly experienced at L1 level and after getting over a big injury went on to play over 30 games for Brighton in the Championship this season
.
Bit like McEveley who played 30 times for Barnsley before being released by them
.
Put it this way I very much doubt he will get the criticism Risser gets!!!

31 is fine - Scholes and Giggs are still going strong in the Premiership at 37/38
.
Schevchenko is still playing international football at 35

I would rather have Navarro who played in L1 and played in the Championship, then Risser who is unknow at L1 level. Both 31y/o. Not knocking Risser but would rather have him as a backup

Barnsley trying to sign mido
Now that would be a great signing.
Onwards and upwards

Didn't Mido agree to play for only £1k a week before? (while at his peak and previously on ££££ not as a kid)
.
That would be a signing at that money

Those are top players who have looked after their self and are not dropping down a league to get a game.

If we're looking for out of contract players, why not try and get that young Irish fella that was relased by Derby, he came on as a 2nd half sub in the Spain v Ireland match this week, can't quite recall his name. Must be worth a punt!

Maybe this Irish fella is worth a punt, but the punt is no longer legal currency. Not even in Ireland.
