SWINDON TOWN: Archibald-Henville ready for hard work

Paolo Di Canio welcomes Troy Archibald-Henville to Swindon
PAOLO Di Canio continued his summer spending spree yesterday with the purchase of centre-back Troy Archibald-Henville from Exeter.
The 23-year-old, who turned down the offer of a new contract with the Grecians to make the move to the County Ground, has penned a two-year deal in Wiltshire and will meet up with his new teammates for pre-season training today.
Archibald-Henville - a former Tottenham trainee - becomes Di Canio’s seventh acquisition of the off-season.
The imposing defender expects to be pushed to his physical limits under Di Canio, saying: “The gaffer has said he wants me to work hard, but that’s a given for any player. I can’t wait to start.
“Hopefully it will be a good first season for me at Swindon and I am looking forward to starting with the lads at pre-season training.
“Having been promoted, I am sure the players here will be in good spirits and I am ready to work hard for my chance.
“I heard about the potential of a move to Swindon on holiday, but I gave it some thought and it’s a good career move for me.
“There is competition for places here but I am willing to work for my position.”
Although he had come to the end of his contract with Exeter, Archibald-Henvillle will still command a fee as he is aged under 24.
Meanwhile, Town’s players return to Swindon today following their summer breaks for the first day of an intensive and demanding pre-season programme.
The Robins are set to jet off on their tour of Italy on Sunday, but before that manager Di Canio and his backroom staff will put their troops through rigourous physical tests to determine what needs to be achieved between now and the resumption of competitive football in August.
Finally, Town’s trip to Preston in September has been moved back 24 hours.
The fixture was originally due to be played on Saturday, September 1 but will now take place on Sunday, September 2 with a 3pm kick-off.
The reason behind the change of date revolves around a clash with the opening weekend of the Preston Guild in the Lancashire town.
Following consultation with Lancashire Police and Preston City Council, it was agreed to shift the clash.

Contrary to opinion of mystic meg, I think it really depends on who leaves before Paolo brings someone else in. If Connell and Bodin leave, I can see him bringing in another striker. If Lanzano decides to see out his contract, (where is he going to get a better one), I think we should perservere and let him be the number 2 keeper for this season. Then we don't need to buy someone who will be lucky to get a game in front of Wes. As for Risser, Mystic is right he will be on the plane, because Paolo likes him, but from a skill point of view he doesn't deserve to be in front of Smith or Cox and even if one of them leaves, from a tatical point of view it's hard to see how Risser will get much game time, even if he is on the bench unless someone is injured, his play time will be limited as befits his skills.

jon smith was a dependable player at league 2 level, and he may be good enough for a lower league 1 team, but for a team that is looking to be in and around the play offs, he's not good enough. i know risser gets a lot of stick on this forum from many posters, but i was never really bothered between risser or smith last year, as i don't think there's much between them...
connel will score goals steadily in league 1, but again, he is not going to bag 20 goals, and with the new additions he has gone further down the pecking order...
will be interested to see what happens with magera.

So it will be interesting to see which way that falls - think that OS the key to any future invomings up top - as could be Bodin's decision

seriously, apart from those two, not sure how we will use De Vita, but personally would prefer to see him at LM, as he helps out in defence. That being the case, think we will need one more up front. Not sure about the keeper, who would want to come here and just be a bench warmer. Maybe time for Bedwell to step up.
