Magera to leave Town by mutual consent

Lukas Magera Lukas Magera

SWINDON Town striker Lukas Magera is set to leave the club by mutual consent.

The Czech international made just 15 starts for Town last season before being shipped out on loan to Banik Ostrava.

Town returned to training today but the Swindon Advertiser understands that the club has agreed a deal to terminate Magera's two-year deal.

To sum Magera up - He's like the gentle giant.

I wish when i played football i was his size as i would have smashed defenders and let them know they were in for a tough game but i felt with Magera he let the defenders dominate him, had no mobility, and i cant think of one positive plus about him as a player.

Good to get him off the books but i wish him well.

if we paid him off it'll probably be half of his remaining contract. i doubt we paid his wages while he was on loan so he's probably cost us very little in truth.

Oi Den Don't think he was ever given a chance to play in his best position. He was never a striker. A role as attacking midfielder may have been better suited for his type of game.

Think it's the right decision for all concerned to let him move on. wish him well.

I think we all like Thompson for what he is, young, ambitious, willing and wants to get on, and above all he must be realistic. He can see the talent that has arrived yet he is still there eager to learn, to train and maybe one day get a chance, but above all, no dreams or illusions above his station.

Bodin on the other hand, delusions of grandeur while within this squad. You may be good Billy, but as yet, not that good, take a long hard look around you, you are being left behind and no tears shed by your mates by looks of things. Goose well cooked.

I think we were paying 1/2 his wages whilst he was on loan, if we only have to pay1/2 his remaing contract, he'll be happy and so will the board.

OK Good singings are

Benson

Fodders
McEveley

The other 5 I do not know much about so can not say if they are good or not. but I am not being negative I just worry that the accounts may be a little streached. I remember the old regime and do not want the borad to get carried away with the PDC factor.

I wish all the players well who are leaving particularly Smith and Connell but I'm not going to cry over it. If the manager thinks we've got better players in then I for one am happy to trust his judgement.

I've said all along I think Bostock will be back and the way we produced last season (losing a couple of games through drink gate) only bodes well for the long term future.

No complaints and very happy majority of business is being done early. Think this makes a huge difference to seasons success with training camp.

Let's face it Lukas Magera was a huge disappointment to most of us fans, and in truth was no better than Vincent Pericard.
Lee Cox has also been a damp squib and it is difficult to see how we managed to sign him in the first place.
But, as has previously been stated, there is no manager or Football Club that always gets it right with signing new players.

Not surprised by him leaving but am by the mutual consent as thought we would have let him go to Banik on a free - bit like the entire squad last year
.
Maybe wages were an issue so this is the easiest way to pave that move
.
Mutual consent doesn't always mean a massive payout - purely depends on the two parties and the situation they are in - if it means Magera can move quicker and easier this way he may accept a small payout to do it
.
As for signings PdC made 18 perm signings last year
.
I see it as 10 - 8 in favour of Hit
.
If McEveley was to be added it would be 11 - 8
.
Devera - Hit
Smith - Hit
RDV - Hit
Comazzi - Miss
Lanzano - Miss
Atuki - Miss
Risser - Hit (he plays a lot!)
Cibbochi - Hit
Esajas - Mis
Connell - Hit
Macca - Hit
Kerrouche - Miss
Gabi - Miss
Clarke - Miss
Magera - Miss
Benson - Hit
Fodders - Hit
Rooney - Hit
Cox - Miss
McEveley - Hit

i dont understand people that keep on about Kewell - He's 33, knackered, injury prone, full of his own self importance and i could see him really clashing with PDC and we dont want the likes of Kewell at our club. He's a has been and should give up playing plus he only played a few games in the crap Australian league last season which is the equivalent of the Conference South level.

Yes indeed. Football is a results business.
Not bad for a rookie manager on his CV is it.
First Season - "I won the league and got my team to a Final at Wembley."

Last season out went many players and so did many come through the revolving door.

It sadddens me when people continually criticise PDC's transfer policy. Yes he has made mistakes, but then who in football management hasn't.

He openly admitted he was in error going continental with recruitment last summer and spent the season putting that right.

Yes he has had a tremedously supportive board, however I almost think the JW is learning at the same pace as PDC which has fuelled the close partnering they share.

What I do like nowadays is that when a player is not working out, for whatever reason, he leaves as soon as is practicable.

I wish all those that are leaving the best, irrelevant of wether they are lazy, arrogant, hard working or just unlucky.

I get the feeling that things will move at a frantic pace going forwards and would not be surprised if we had ingoings (and outgoings) at Christmas.

the wizard says...

As part of the managerial learning curve, I think PdC has had to come to grips with some errors and mistakes, and we have all made them in our professions, which is why many managers start off in non league to gain the necessary experience.

That said I think he has had his fair share of "lemons" now, and on the face of it the more recent signings most would agree look at least more common sense.

Kerrouche wasn't a bad mistake, he was more of a clash of personality, don't forget at one point we just loved all those goals flying in.

Gabilondo in spells was impressive and had good games and proved to be useful at times.

Esajas, well he had played at Sheff Weds, and pre season he was on fire, thunderbolt shots on goal from a distance, and the look of Edgar Davids, but sadly it didn't work in L2.

I'm sure that Smith and Connell will continue to ply their trade in the league and successfully too, why not, they take away with the philosophy of diCanio, and can apply that regime to the rest of their careers. I'm sure Connell will be followed by many to see where he goes, and how he performs over his remaining seasons. I hope we do see him again at CG, as he can then receive the applause he is due and deserves.

A fair post on the players named wizard and I think we all agree on your sentiment regarding Smith and Connell.

What is interesting, and this may cause a bit of debate, is that the only reason why we on here believe Risser is retained is due to his attitude and training. Something I think Connell and Smith were equally devoted.

Apologies for raising the Risser debate, for me though, I think he has a role still to play.

Yawn, Pathetic. PDC did make some mistkes, he also had to get some bodies in quickly, considering what we achieved and considering the players he has just bought in I think PDC has done extremly well for a rookie manager, League 2 title, Wembley appearance, not bad for a first season is it?

I think there are defining issues in this life. One of the defining issues is that of performance set against wages.
If you pay somebody a menial wage then you don't expect miracles, although I suppose there are exceptions.

However, the further you go up the scale, so the scale of expectation is increased. You pay a professional a professional wage to do his job, and you let them know accordingly if they don't.

When you get to professional sports people, you expect to see the best. That is, the best effort, best commitment, best prepared to the best standard at that level. Obviously a best Premier league player, should be better than a best Blue Square player, because wages, standards and club structure demand that.
And there is where the expectation of Magera went wrong. he is an international for his country, but how many at that level do they have to choose from, are they better than the home countries at international level, hmm maybe not, so the parity is all haphazard. Our expectation was something perhaps a bridge to far. Yes, I have criticised him, but looking back he was not suited to League Two in the UK, flashes of intent and inspiration yes, because the guy probably was desperate to succeed, but I fear it was never going to happen in the crazy world of League Two. Wrong man at the wrong time in the wrong place, a bad choice, but he was invited to join, and the prospects looked good, who can blame him for that, an error as much by PDC as the player. He did me no harm, I wish him well, now he will probably plunder England at the next game between our countries. Wal sdos.
