HOCKEY: SWINDON failed to get their season back on track, going down 4-2 at home to Robinson A in Premier Division Two.
After last week's defeat against bottom team Whitchurch, Swindon were desperate to bounce back.
However, with coach Craig Sage and Rich Bennett missing, the team peformed poorly.
From the push back Swindon were on the back foot and made numerous silly errors. Within 10 minutes of the start Swindon were 2-0 down.
The second half saw a revived Swindon come out and at least battle with their visitors from Bristol.
And Swindon scored the next goal after great work from Tom Gillingham.
Swindon's joy though was short lived as the Bristol team came back with another two goals midway through the half to wrap up victory.
With less than two minutes remaining, Swindon got their second goal courtesy of Chris Hambling's strike but it was too little too late for the home side.
Swindon face a tough test at the weekend they travel to top-of-the-table Team Bath A, with some key players missing.
In Premier Division Three, struggling Cirencester went down 8-1 away to Taunton Vale - Simon Dicker scoring the only goal for Ciren - while in North Division Two West Wilts beat Glos A 4-0 but North Wilts went down 7-0 away at Whitchurch B.
Marlborough A had two matches in the Avon Division losing 5-0 against Bristol Uni B and winning 3-0 against Bath Buccs E.
In Wilts & North East Somerset Division One Wootton Bassett earned a fine away win against North Wilts to move up to third place in the table.
Bassett clinched their fourth win out of five matches seeing off North Wilts 4-2.
Bassett started the stronger but found themselves a goal down within 10 minutes following some sloppy defending.
A series of spectacular saves from Bassett keeper Paul Warren followed, before Grant Kirkup equalised for the home side with a skilful chip into the net.
After the break, both teams went close but North Wilts got the breakthrough as Bassett were reduced to 10 men.
The resulting penalty stroke was converted by North Wilts with low flick into the corner for 2-1.
But Bassett bounced back when Dale Titcombe combined well with Mark Skivington to earn a penalty corner, converted by the latter.
Shortly afterwards Dan Jeffery burst out of defence to score his first of the season with a powerful strike and Bassett struck again when Jeffery scored his second of the match.
With 10 minutes to go Bassett were reduced to nine men when another yellow card was shown for a stick tackle, but despite this they held on for victory.
Next week Bassett face Team Bath Buccaneers at Lime Kiln (1pm pushback).
Elsewhere, Swindon C lost 4-0 away at Shepton Mallet, Swindon B won 2-0 at home to City of Bath D, both in Wilts & North East Somerset Division Two.
