11:46am Friday 31st August 2012 in Sport
TROWBRIDGE Amateur Swimming Club youngster Chloe Davies announced herself to the world in spectacular fashion as she thundered to victory in her Paralympic heat in the women’s S14 100m backstroke this morning.
The 13-year-old, who is making her Games debut, was first at the turn and held off the challenge of the Netherlands' Marlou van der Kulk to finish first in 1:09.22.
Davies qualified fastest for this evening's final at 7.38pm and put herself in a prime position to win a medal, despite being Team GB's youngest athlete at the games.
Meanwhile, Davies' Trowbridge ASC clubmate Aaron Moores also shone on his Paralympic Games bow as he qualified third-fastest in the men’s S14 100m backstroke heats.
The 18-year-old recorded a new personal best of 1:04.80 as he finished second in his heat behind Dutchman Marc Evers, qualifying third-fastest for the final at 7.31pm.
