SWINDON’S Jason Doyle has suffered a suspected broken jaw but the rider insists he will be fit to ride against Belle Vue on Thursday.
The in-form Aussie crashed while racing in Poland on Sunday and has not yet had the damage confirmed by a doctor.
Doyle is due to have an X-ray today, but the outcome is not expected to affect whether he rides against the Aces in the Elite League this week.
“He thinks he’s broken his jaw but he assures me he’ll be fine for Thursday,” said Robins boss Alun Rossiter.
“With injuries speedway riders are a different breed - at least it means he can keep his mouth shut!”
Doyle is poised to take part in two sets of play-offs this year, with Swindon in the Elite League, and Somerset in the Premier League.
Upon hearing of the accident, the Somerset hierarchy were understandably concerned that the Aussie may be unavailable for their play-off campaign.
“Obviously, if confirmed, this is a big blow to our Championship ambitions,” said Rebels promoter Debbie Hancock.
“All we can do at this stage of things, though, is to cross our fingers and hope that the X-rays show that there is no break and that Doyley will be back riding for us sooner rather than later.”
As a Poole rider, Doyle suffered huge disappointment in 2011 in missing the Elite League play-offs due to a shoulder injury, as his club went on to win the grand final.
Meanwhile, Swindon have confirmed their home meeting with Lakeside, washed out last Monday, will now take place in nine days’ time.
The Elite League title hopefuls have, like many other clubs, faced a race against time to beat the cut-off deadline for the play-offs of September 19.
Alun Rossiter’s men face Belle Vue at the Abbey this Thursday, September 6 and Lakeside visit on September 13.
Monday, September 17 has also been pencilled in as a reserved date in case either meeting falls victim to the weather.
Robins bosses can also confirm the Elite League Riders’ Championship on Saturday, October 20 will start at 6pm, an hour later than previously advertised.
Swindon have still to finalise a date for the away trip to Peterborough in the Knockout Cup.
