Cup win is the new blueprint for Shrivvy
6:00am Friday 14th September 2012 in Sport By Ned Payne
MICHAEL McNally wants his Shrivenham side to give the same performance against Cheltenham tomorrow as they did in crushing Wootton Bassett 4-1 on Wednesday.
Brad Gill (3) and Josh Fowler netted in the crushing Floodlit Cup first-round win, with Jack Ellis’ reply coming in vain.
And McNally would be quite happy to see the same display from the Rec side in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase.
“We got beat 2-1 by Cheltenham a week or two ago and they were quite lively down both sides and had a good lad up front,” said McNally.
“But if we play like we did against Wootton Bassett then we’re in with a squeak. The attitude was a lot better than Saturday.
“We’ve got a squad of about 19 to choose from and we’ve got Michael Silvanus back and should have Sam Roberts back.”
Shrivenham have signed former New College man Sam English, a left-sided player who can also play centre-half.
Elsewhere in the Vase, Fairford welcome Hook Norton, while in Division One West, New College make the short trip to Purton .
In Division One West, Wootton Bassett should field a vastly-changed side at Clanfield from the one that was hammered at Shrivenham.
Jordan Matthews will be hoping to pick up from where he left off when Malmesbury host Cricklade this weekend.
The striker hit a double in Vics’ 2-1 win over Carterton in the Floodlit Cup in Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Lambourn make the journey to North Leigh looking for their second league win of the season and Purton clash with New College at the Red House.
Cirencester face Division One Central opposition in the preliminary round of FA Trophy tomorrow, with Guildford the visitors.
Tyrone Mings could be in the Chippenham squad that travels to Banbury in the Southern Premier.
The son of former boss Adie, left-back Mings has been brought in to compete with Shaun Lamb.
“Ty’s a local lad who’s grown up around the club and he’ll add to our crop of young talent,” said Bluebirds boss Nathan Rudge.
