SWINDON TOWN: Miller not letting defeats 'fester'

TOMMY Miller has urged his teammates not to allow themselves to “fester” as they try to halt a three-game losing streak.

Miller, a summer signing from Huddersfield, insisted that he and the rest of the Robins squad are well aware that their recent performances have been below-par, and he stressed the need for Swindon’s players to haul themselves out of their current slump before the problem becomes endemic.

Speaking to the Advertiser, the midfielder accepted that Town’s displays have been nowhere near their expected quality of late.

“We don’t want to fester and drag on,” he said. “We want to put things right now and we need to get back to winning ways if we want to be up there towards the right end of the table.

“We don’t want to slip towards the bottom and confidence gets a bit low.

“We’ve been back on the training ground, we need to work harder on things and what’s gone wrong the last few games. We’ve got a week’s worth of training and looking forward to the Carlisle game on Saturday.

“The last few games have been disappointing. Preston had some bad goals conceded and we didn’t play very well, Oxford was in the last minute and we didn’t play very well then either and Saturday was a big disappointment at home.

“We were expecting to win the game and we didn’t perform at all.”

The 33-year-old said the blueprint to returning success to the County Ground was simple, and he reminded fans of the type of football Swindon are capable of once they get back to top form.

“We’re just getting back to basics in general - hard work, teamwork, fighting for each other, getting on the ball, where the ball’s going to go - just general stuff like that,” he said.

“We need to be better as a team in general as a unit.

“Previously we were very good.

“We were getting some good results so we’ve got to get back to basics. We haven’t become a bad team overnight.

“We just need to get back to what we were doing back then and take it into the game on Saturday.”
