Paolo Di Canio
PAOLO Di Canio has revealed a handful of negative vibes in the Swindon Town dressing room may have influenced his side’s performances in their poor recent run of form.
Di Canio said that an unnamed member of the Town squad had been overly vocal in training, expressing a desire for more days off for the Robins’ players, and the Italian felt that his views may have dragged down the rest of the team of late.
However, after analysing Swindon’s three consecutive defeats over the course of the past 13 days, Di Canio stressed that he has his squad back on track prior to the trip to Carlisle this afternoon.
He told the Advertiser: “I knew some message had been sent out in the wrong way at the wrong time - for example the Tuesday before Oxford - which came after Preston from a player that played very, very badly against Preston who shouldn’t shout his mouth and send bad messages to the others because he can have a negative influence.
“In a bad moment, before Oxford, maybe he knew he couldn’t be involved and spoke for half-an-hour during the training session and in the dressing room - I can imagine more - ‘we need a day off, we need two days off’ and the next week asks Claudio (Donatelli, Swindon’s fitness coach) ‘can we have Sunday and Monday because we need to book?’ “
Book what? It’s not for me. A player that maybe said he wants to train hard trained hard and then forgot at the first moment he felt tired and played bad, but he has to cancel or he can’t be a part of my squad. “It was August 28, not April.
“Even if they won last year as a champion it is easy to fall in a trap. That is important. I told you in the summer that they will cancel, they will release how they achieved this situation and became champions - especially people like (Alan) McCormack and (Jay) McEveley who joined us during the season and didn’t have pre-season with us.
“Only four remain since last year, forget (Paul) Caddis who’s gone, the others at the beginning accepted the regime and then, when they start to feel tired, they have the habit probably that they have had in the past to relax.
“So Monday was important because I reminded them that I spent 15 days during the summer going up and down as a professional manager just to be sure when I meet the new players, to look in their eyes and say ‘with me it will be tough’.”

.
That usually implies an older experienced player - ala Macca
.
Or a big character - ala Ferry
.
Ferry didn't start at Preston and has had lots of praise of PdC so very much doubt it is him
.
So must be an older head - Devera, Macca, Jay Miller or Navarro

Luke Rooney doesn't strike me as being a big influence in the dressing room

Like others I'm sure that the comments are relating to Luke as he is going to be one of those unsettled due to lack of games and being honest...I don't think he has produced the goods often enough - Raffa is doing well so when Roberts comes back Rooney will be 3rd choice.
---
The training regime is more tactical than full on hard graft all week so forgive me folks but you signed up to be a footballer on high wages (even at a league 1 club) and football isn't a Mon - Fri 40 hour week...if you are playing Sat - Tues every week for 3 weeks then I'm afraid you need to be in doing post match and pre match routines preparing tactically and enjoy your time off where you get it!
---
Players know what they signed into so come on folks give it a go - PDC and the fitness coach will not allow burn out else it would all be counter-productive.
...
Feeling lazy!?...then I don't want my hard earned money lining your pocket I'm afraid!!

They all played badly at Preston but McEverley was attrocious and hasn't played since.
Having said that it doesn't really matter who it was. Paolo has made his point without naming names and that is a pleasant change given the events of the last few weeks.

On another point, Ronnie Moore (Tranmere's manager) is the manager of the month for August. Did he have 5 unbeaten games without conceeding a goal, whilst scoring 10 (including 3-0 wins against a Premier and a championship side that is top of their division).
Tranmeres are doing well and Ronnie is a good manager, but I can't help thinking once again Paolo has been overlooked because of who he is and not what he acheived. I know it's a poison challis, but the stuffed shirts who choose the nominees don't have to be so blatently bias against Paolo who I'm sure doesn't care a rats arse what the establishment think.

Last week was bad as is the run of 3 losses but we lost 5 out of the first 7 last season so no panic here and i am sure it will sort itself out.
I still think PDC being the ultimate professional in his career might have some problems with the attitude of the "modern" player.

Seems Di Canio is going soft in his old age!!! Apparently he has given the player in question an extra day off for the next few weeks???? And to top it all off it's Every Saturday!!!!! Lucky bugger!!!! ;-)

Agree with posts players who signed up did know more or less what was in store with Pdc and fitness regime so tough on those who complain.
On the other hand I fear this strict daily routine will cause a few problems on the way and Pdc must remember these players are only human and like all of us do like a winge.
Yes Pdc has a lot to learn about UK football .In theory what he is trying to achieve is ok but putting into practise is a different Ball Game.
Do wish him well and hope we get some kind of result today as another defeat will not look good on his resume/

And I really don't understand this thing about people in authority being biased against PDC. I've never seen any evidence of it. In fact, I often watch him very closely during home games and I think he gets afforded a fair degree of leeway by the officials. Anyway, is it really the establishment that makes the awards? I always thought they were done by sponsors.

Rooney in particular has yet to prove himself above mid-table league 2 - I'm sure he's good enough talent wise but the brain and the will to keep improving need to be seen.

Di Canio mentioned 2 specifically the other being Macca. If it was Macca then he certainly wouldn't be captain at this moment in time and I doubt he'd be playing.
No, it's Jaymac because he was dropped immediatly after that game and hasn't played since.

Aden Flint & Luke Rooney both at Nuffield Gym this morning training with the kids. Aden normally very chatty but today he was in a foul mood as was Luke. Luke trained in his Gillingham shirt.
