Drought? Williams was never counting
6:00am Friday 21st September 2012 in Sport By Sam Morshead
WAIT IS OVER: Andy Williams
ANDY Williams has revealed he was not aware that his goal drought had stretched to nine games prior to him finding the net for the first time as a Swindon player in the 2-1 win at Portsmouth on Tuesday.
Williams, who has become a firm fixture in the Robins’ starting line-up since arriving from Yeovil over the summer, grabbed Town’s second in the 55th minute of the victory on the south coast to finally break his duck for his new club.
The 26-year-old was well aware that it had taken a while for him to get off the mark in a red shirt but, with matches coming thick and fast in the opening six weeks of the campaign, he had lost track of time.
When he was told by the Advertiser that it had taken him until his 10th outing for Town to get his name on the scoresheet, Williams was a little surprised.
“I didn’t realise it was that many games but the gaffer’s kept picking me and credit to him for that when I haven’t been scoring,” he said.
“I can’t question my workrate but sometimes my performances haven’t been as good as they should be. I’ve just got to keep performances high and hopefully the chances will keep coming.
“Now that I’ve got one the goals will keep coming as well.
“Personally, I don’t tend to look at it. You’ve got to keep yourself to yourself sometimes as a footballer, especially when things aren’t going our way.
“I haven’t really read into how many games it had been that I hadn’t scored in but you’ve just got to believe in your own ability and keep going and I knew the goal would come eventually.
“Hopefully there are many more to come on top of that now.”
Scoring at Fratton Park in front of 1,400 travelling Town fans has given Williams a buzz that he hopes to keep throughout the rest of the season.
“You know you’re going to get a great atmosphere at Fratton Park, especially when you bring as many fans as we did, and scoring in front of them was a great feeling,” he said.
“It gave them something to cheer and I hadn’t given Swindon fans a great deal to cheer in my short time here to that was good.
“Hopefully that’s the start of things to come.”

ht I may be able to get 25s at least - he's scored early enough in the season and looks like someone who will enjoy feeding off Ritchie, Roberts and de Vita.

Might take it anyway.

.
It says we have a fully fit squad - so seems stragne to go from ever present to not in the squad for 2 games
.
OK he was always going to be replaced by Roberts in the starting XI - but surely a place on the bench to provide options for both wings and up top would justified - especially after his start to the year

Does anyone know what is going on with RDV?

TAH looked very good but i've only seen him once and Ward i still think is a decent defender and that will show in time, should not be written off so soon as some have. COYR
Cant believe I have just read the above comment about Flint being our best defender this season! Taht guy is a legend in his own mind( imo) TAH much better option.
Looking forward to a good win on Sat
