HEAD TO HEAD - TOWN V BOURNEMOUTH: A history of goals
6:00am Friday 21st September 2012 in Sport
SWINDON and Bournemouth share a rich history, dating all the way back to the Cherries’ first visit to the County Ground in August 1923.
Then Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic, the away side were sent home point-less courtesy of Jack Johnson’s hat-trick in a 3-1 Town win.
Since then the south coast club have made the trip to Wiltshire on 52 further occasions in the league.
The Cherries lost on their first four visits to the County Ground, including an 8-2 mauling in January 1926 which remains Bournemouth’s biggest ever defeat to the Robins.
After finally breaking their duck with a 4-3 FA Cup win at SN1 in November 1926, Bournemouth went winless in Wiltshire for another eight years.
However, since the Second World War the two teams have been fairly evenly matched when they have met in Swindon.
Don Rogers made a happy habit of scoring against the Cherries at the County Ground, as, to be honest, he did against the majority of clubs at the time, registering in three successive clashes between 1967 and 1969.
If the events of recent years are anything to go by, this particular match can be relied on for goals.
There have been at least three in each of the past five meetings of the sides in Wiltshire, with Town scoring four in consecutive games in 2006 and 2007.

Let's hope we hammer them on the pitch either way! :-)

Can remember the game but not the incident.....being honest even n STFC minority have been guilty of that in the past....I've intervened in a couple of instances where I thought someone was in serious trouble....where they didn't deserve it that is!

With the improvements of CCTV etc. security is noe much better, hopefully none of us will ever have to see such disgusting behaviour again from any club supporters visiting SN1.
