SWINDON TOWN: THE VIC MORGAN COLUMN: All is right with the world
6:00am Thursday 27th September 2012 in Sport
I CAN’T help but think that all’s right with the County Ground world right now.
There we were, apparently, a couple of short weeks ago experiencing a blip and a crisis of confidence.
The Town hadn’t won for three games, the wheels were supposedly falling off and the bandwagon was struggling up Blunsdon Hill.
Since then, that wagon has reached the top and is cruising along with all four wheels greased and moving in top gear.
The performance in the 4-0 win against Bournemouth was exemplary.
Nathan Thompson rightly won man of the match award for a great display at right-back and the Town’s football at times was stunning.
Apart from a few minutes in which I seriously thought PDC would self-combust, such was his anger, our manager smiled, enjoyed and produced something only he can.
Now, normally a chant of ‘give us a wave’ brings a raising of the arm as whoever is asked acknowledges the crowd, this done while the person is also concentrating on the match.
But such was his pleasure at the team’s performance, a relaxed, sitting Paolo did something a little different.
Out came the right foot from the dugout, a little shake and a big cheer.
There was a smile when Adam Rooney had a go at an audacious little reverse hook late on, something Di Canio the player would have tried.
There was the pointing upwards at the ceremonial walk on to the pitch at the end. It was a sign that the wagon is running smoothly again.
All that was followed by a great League Cup win over Charlie Austin’s Burnley, a game I missed due to work commitments.
By all accounts I hear it was another excellent display, and of course Charlie was bound to score but it didn’t matter.
The result wasn’t a shock either. Swindon are no longer classed as giantkillers because people half-expect them to beat sides from higher divisions.
Of course that win brings back memories of a semi-final win over the same opposition in the season we won the trophy.
I’m not suggesting we might again lift that cup, but then again....
“He waves with his foot, he waves with his foot, Paolo Di Canio he waves with his foot.”
Yes, all is right with the County Ground world.

Gave me a nice big smile to start my day.

Love the "waves with his foot" chant! Something for Saturday at Shrewsbury m'thinks!....I'm assuming that the game isn't being threatened by floodwaters on this score.
