SUPERMARINE manager Dave Webb believes Nathan Rudge has moulded a ‘fiercely competitive’ edge into his Chippenham side.

The teams lock horns at Hardenhuish Park in the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy this afternoon, in what will be both bosses’ first experience of the derby from a managerial perspective.

And although Webb goes into the tie with little knowledge of Rudge the player-boss, he fully expects the Bluebirds to approach the clash with their manager’s well-known desire to win.

“I don’t know him (Rudge) personally but I know him as a player, and I’m sure his side are like he is to play against,” said Webb.

“He was always a very fierce competitor and I’m sure his team has got that to it as well as quality.

“I’ve watched a few of these games in the past and they are always keenly contested. It should be a game you don’t need any motivation for, everything is there.

“We’re under no illusions how difficult it’s going to be, as they are an established Southern Premier side and we aren’t in that league now.

“We’re going in as slight underdogs but at the end of the day I’m not too worried about that. Hopefully we’ll show the quality we have at the football club and if we don’t it could be a long afternoon.”

Rudge has vowed Chippenham will not take tomorrow’s encounter lightly against lower-division opposition.

He said: “We have to play to our maximum in every game because we’re not good enough to not give it our all against sides from lower leagues.

“Supermarine are in the league below now, but Dave Webb is putting together a good side there with good young players and we’ll have to go full tilt to win.”

Chippenham are without the banned Ashley Williams for the tie - worth £3,250 to the winner - while James Guthrie misses out with broken bones in his hand.

Kyle Lapham is available for Supermarine having returned after five weeks in India with employers Nationwide , and he could return to the fold.

Cirencester are without a game in either league or cup this weekend.

A date has been set for the much-delayed final of the 2011/12 Wiltshire Premier Shield.

Supermarine will meet Salisbury at the Webb’s Wood Stadium on Wednesday, October 31 (kick-off 7.45pm).
