- REPORTING BY SAM MORSHEAD & ANDY WARREN
- FULL-TIME Shrewsbury Town 0 Swindon Town 1 (Ferry 78)
- Simon Ferry grabs Town's winner
- James Collins misses two good chances against his former club
5:26pm
WES FODERINGHAM: "I think they put us under pressure and I switched off a bit and a weak shot went under my legs, and thankfully it didn't go over the line.
"My first thought was that it had gone in, but I was relieved when I saw it didn't go over the line.
"The gaffer said before the game that they were going to put a lot of balls into the box, and I was asked to come and try and help out the defence which I think I did well.
"I didn't have much to do today, and clean sheets mean you don't lose the game."
5:23pm
SIMON FERRY : "First half wasn't pretty and we weren't great, and Willo and Collins were both unlucky.
"There were few chances, but I always thought we would get a goal eventually.
"Rooney should have cut it back in the first place, but I somehow managed to get in and I don't really know how it happened.
"I was going to hit it early but I let it drop, and I saw the keeper and put it in.
"If there was any man in the team who could have missed that it would have been me, I would probably rather Wardy was there.
"With the delivery we have got, there is no reason why I can't get in there and score more goals."
5:14pm
PDC on James Collins' performance: "I am happy for him, but if he had scored it would have been better.
"It is hard for him to come back here after two months, but he was very mature."
5:13pm
PDC on Simon Ferry's goal: "For the last two weeks I was tough with him, but he finished well.
"It looked easy but it was not easy because he received pressure from his opponent and the ball bounced in front of him.
"It is not normal for him to score and I am very pleased."
5:11pm
PDC on Giles Coke: "At this moment he is far from the way I want to play, in the middle of the park.
"Sometimes he is not focuses but I will help him because he is a guy with pride."
5:10pm
Paolo Di Canio: "We dominated the game and we should have scored more goals. In the end we came out with three points, and I am very happy even if I am very tired.
"I believe we can win, especially today.
"Some ghosts from the past came out, and when I saw the ball on the goal line I wondered what was going on.
"You can think a bit negative, but always you want to encourage your players and we are very happy because if you want to stay at the top you have to suffer."

3:56pm
HALF-TIME THOUGHTS: Would expect Miller/Navarro or both in second half. A little extra experience could go long way. Shrews nothing special
— @SamMorshead_SA 29 September 2012
HALF-TIME THOUGHTS: As predicted, it's a scrappy affair, uneasy on the eye, pretty ugly in fact. Need more grit in the middle of the park.
— @SamMorshead_SA 29 September 2012
HALF-TIME THOUGHTS: Two best chances fall to Swindon, though, and Williams and Collins should have done better
— @SamMorshead_SA 29 September 2012
HALF-TIME THOUGHTS: Swindon very average to poor in the first half. Struggled with Shrews' physicality, channel long-ball doesn't work
— @SamMorshead_SA 29 September 2012

NON-LEAGUE HALF-TIME: Wantage Town 2 Wootton Bassett 0

NON-LEAGUE HALF-TIME: Chippenham Town 2 Swindon Supermarine 0 (FA Trophy)
3:50pm
And that's it for the first half
HALF-TIME: Shrewsbury Town 0 Swindon Town 0
3:50pm
45 minutes : James Collins is presented with a golden opportunity to score against his old club, but fires a long way over from five yards in front of an open goal under pressure from defenders. Andy Williams made the chance after capitalising on a home error, but saw his shot blocked after rounding the keeper.

40 minutes: Williams superbly pulls the ball back for partner Collins, but the former Shrewsbury man’s shot is blocked.
3:40pm
35 minutes: Williams makes space for himself as he sets up a volley on the edge of the area, but his effort goes a mile over the bar, and only just stays inside the ground.
3:40pm
35 minutes: Williams makes space for himself as he sets up a volley on the edge of the area, but his effort goes a mile over the bar, and only just stays inside the ground.
3:38pm
33 minutes: Town win a free-kick 10 yards outside the home area which McEveley strikes, and Chris Weale tips behind for the corner. Ritchie’s corner once again evades everyone.
3:35pm
Town looking very short of ideas so far this afternoon, with long balls into the channels their only real method of attack. The conditions aren't helping, but there is little sign of the slick football that we have seen so much of in recent weeks.
3:32pm
It appears Nathan Thompson is carrying a slight not, which is why he has not been risked this afternoon.
3:32pm
Shouts of 'You're only worth 10 grand' being aimed at James Collins.
3:29pm

3:00pm
Some boos and a ripple of applause as James Collins' name is read out on his return to Shrewsbury.

The players are out on the pitch with kick-off ionly minutes away
2:57pm
ADVER SPORTS WRITER ANDY WARREN: When I first saw the Swindon team I was a little surprised to see Paolo Di Canio make so many changes this afternoon, but looking at Town’s results after big cup wins, maybe I shouldn’t be.
The defeat at Preston highlights exactly why it is not always good to field the same eleven players only four days later, and with the large squad at Di Canio’s disposal I think he has done the right thing.
This afternoon is a big opportunity for a number of players to stake their claim, in particular Simon Ferry, Raffa De Vita and Giles Coke.
Expecting a tight game with few goals, but Town are more than capable of winning.
2:55pm

2:50pm
Home captain Matt Richards knows exactly what to expect from Swindon this afternoon after two competitive games last season which both finished 2-1.
“Last year’s games with Swindon were exciting affairs and I expect today to be just the same.
“They’re a strong team, you can see that, and they have got a lot of strength in depth. It is going to be a difficult game and having just come up with us they have started the season very well.
“On our day we can beat anyone in this division and we have been a bit unfortunate late on in a couple of games this season when we have thrown away points.
“We’ve drawn games we should have won so we are looking forward to facing Swindon.”
2:43pm
Shrewsbury physio Chris Skitt also has a regular programme column, and he has highlighted former favourite James Collins as the dangerman.
“I want to welcome back James Collins back to the club where we shared some great memories over his 18 months here.
“Collo and I grew very close over the year and a half we spent at the club.
“He was regularly a cheery face in the morning who would share a joke or two, and he was a consummate professional who heeded any advice he was given.
“Of course his goals proved crucial in the promotion push during the back end of last season, and for that reason I hope he is welcomed back here with the reception he deserves.
“I hope he has a fine season with Swindon, with the exception of two games of course!”
2:41pm
There is also a big afternoon of action in the world of non-league football, with the pick of the action coming at Hardenhuish Park where Chippenham Town take on Swindon Supermarine.
Marine boss Dave Webb is expecting a very competitive game.
“We’re under no illusions how difficult it’s going to be, as they are an established Southern Premier side and we aren’t in that league now," he said.
“We’re going in as slight underdogs but at the end of the day I’m not too worried about that. Hopefully we’ll show the quality we have at the football club and if we don’t it could be a long afternoon.”
Non-league updates will appear as part of Matchday Live.
2:37pm
DANGERMEN - A look at the men Town will have to stop this afternoon
Marvin Morgan
The Shrewsbury striker has scored goals wherever he has been, be it in non-league football or in the professional game. Morgan is capable of popping up on either flank or through the middle, and
offers a physical threat as well as being good on the ball.
Paul Parry
The winger is capable of popping up on either flank, and has impressed all the way up to Championship level. Parry can hug the touchline or come inside to attack the penalty area, and both
full-backs will need to be on their toes.
Matt Richards
The Shrewsbury captain can literally play anywhere on the field, having started his career as a left-back at Ipswich. He operated in the centre of midfield for Shrews last season, but now finds
himself on the wing. Richards is good on the ball and moves from box to box, and is also good from set pieces.
2:28pm
James Collins is expecting a fairly negative reception when he runs out for Swindon Town at his former club Shrewsbury today.
Here is a snippet of what he had to say earlier in the week...
“I don’t think I’ll get the best of receptions there for whatever reasons, but it’s part and parcel of football,” he said.
“If I get the nod and the chance to play then hopefully I can go there and score a goal and help my new team win.
“When I left, the fans on Twitter and in the papers seemed to think I left for the wrong reasons. That’s fair enough, that’s football and I understand that so hopefully I can prove them wrong on
Saturday.
“It’s disappointing but I think you’ve got to expect it when you go to former clubs. Fans are going to be fans, they make football great and what it is so I can understand why they think it, but
I’m not bothered."
For the full interview with the striker, who starts today, click here.
2:19pm
Shrews skipper Matt Richards also believes his side will need to keep a firm eye on former star James Collins, who makes his first return to the club in Swindon colours this afternoon.
“James Collins makes his first return having moved to Swindon during the summer, and it will be nice to see him,” he said.
“I got on well with Collo when he was here, and he did exceptionally well as he scored 16 goals in our promotion season.
“That is all in the past now though, but he is a great player and we will have to be aware of him, just like we will have to be with a lot of our players.”

So when Paolo said 'of course I will play the same team,' after the Burnley match ... Was he joking? Has he changed his mind after watching them in training this week? Or is this simply the team to play Shrewsbury?
When Paolo left the room after his press conference on Tuesday, he put his hand up to his nose in a gesture that said: "I might have told you a porkie". So I think he was well aware at that point that he'd be changing it.
2:13pm
There will be a minute's silence before today's game in memory of former Shrews manager John Bond who died this week.
2:09pm
ADVER CHIEF SPORTS WRITER SAM MORSHEAD: A lot of changes made to a team which has won three games in a row.
This most definitely comes from manager Paolo Di Canio's desire not to see his team put in performances similar to those at Hartlepool and Preston, which came immediately after big cup wins.
However, for some - such as Nathan Thompson, who is only just establishing himself into a rhythm in the side - it does appear mightly harsh. That is only exaggerated when you look at the substitutes' bench and Thompson is not on it.
Then again, Di Canio has shown he can be pretty shrewd tactically over the course of his 16 months in Wiltshire.

BREAKING TEAM NEWS
SWINDON TOWN v Shrewsbury: Foderingham; Bessone, Ward, McCormack, McEveley; Ritchie, Ferry, Coke, De Vita; Collins, Williams.
Substitutes: Bedwell, Archibald-Henville, Navarro, Miller, Roberts, Benson, A Rooney
That's SIX changes made by manager Paolo Di Canio.
1:58pm
In his programme notes, Shrew boss Graham Turner says he has been impressed with the way Town have started since the two clubs were promoted to League One for the start of this season.
7
GRAHAM TURNER DURING HIS TIME WITH HEREFORD
“Swindon have started the season well with a high position in the league and progress in the Capital One Cup. Their reward for beating Burnley on Tuesday night is a very attractive game against Aston Villa, and I am sure everyone connected with the club is looking forward to that,” he said.
“The game finished in a very disappointing way. To concede an equaliser so late in the match was frustrating to say the least, especially when we had chances to kill them off with a third goal from all the chances we had."
“A total of five points have been lost by conceding late goals, and it is high time we stop throwing away points in this manner."

More from Alan Navarro now and what the midfielder thinks are minimum requirements from today's game.
“It’s important that we don’t lose the game," he said.
"If we don’t win the game, then we go there and don’t lose the game. If we come away with a point we could look back and think it could be a good point, but obviously we’re going there to win the game."

James Collins is back having a look around the pitch he used to call home, and is catching up with some old friends including Marvin Morgan.

Here is what he had to say: “I’ve played against Shrewsbury in the past, obviously they’re not going to be the same team.

Hello everyone and welcome to Matchday Live, coming to you from the New Meadow as Swindon Town make the trip to Shrewsbury.
The Robins are in a rich vein of form at present, having notched up wins against Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Burnley over the course of the past 11 days.
But it's back to the nitty gritty today and a visit to the notoriously hard-to-breakdown Shrews.
Graham Turner's side came second to Paolo Di Canio's Swindon in last year's League Two title race, and you can expect an organised and resilient team to run out in Shropshire this afternoon.
IN CHARGE: SHREWSBURY BOSS GRAHAM TURNER
We'll bring you all the best build-up to the game, followed by match updates and post-match analysis as Town look for their first win at Shrewsbury's new home.

I hope the loan will do Luke some good because he represents something that is a rare commodity in football, the X factor. He does the unexpected which is probably the reason he is not figuring in Paolo's plans currently. It was obvious from the Preston performance that he lacked confidence and, imo, the fear factor that Paolo uses to great effect with the majority of players, palpably does not work for Luke. This boy could really be anything and it would be a criminal loss to us if he were allowed to leave for want of a hand on the shoulder and a bit of TLC.

Todays game is gona be a toughy, but we can't have yet another "After the Lord's Mayors Show" again, can we?
Always difficult for any team to get a result at New Meadow. Out of the last 30 games there only four teams have scored more than one goal and the Shrews have only lost twice in that period.
But, today thats going to change. Town to win 3-1.
And like Ritchie and Austin scoring against their former clubs, young Jimmy C. is going to score against the Shrews.

Good report. Thompson didn't play due to picking up a knock. Bessone covered by the sound of it on the opposite side to normal which may explain his poorish performance distribution wise.
Still a good win and a good performance defensively to restrict them to 5 shots all game (according to BBC site).

Out fitness, like at Hartlepool started to expose them in the last 15 minutes.
Looked so much better with Roberts and Miller on.
Should have been more but 1-0 away from home are the results that promote teams so very satisfied and to get home on a Saturday earlier than a home game an extra bonus.

LR,
The Beeb have us down as a draw at 0-0 and 14 points in one table and yet on another web page 15 points, whoops!
No doubt it will all be sorted soon......ish

Once most players are firing on all cylinders then we should ease our way to the top. That's the theory anyway, but of course a lot will happen between now and May. At least we have a large squad with a lot of potential to see up through most ups and downs.

By the way....not a fan of Bessone - his distribution is....ermmm...lackin g. ---. What is wrong with Thompson? ---. BBC site is rubbish!! 2nd time they've messed up in 3 weeks....with all their resources I'd expect a league table to add up - wouldn't catch me getting the predictions league wrong!!!?
Only going to be one winner in the end.
McEverley my MOM today, but a special mention to the boo-boys player Ward. Did very well against Morgan today even with the Ref first half assisting.
Shrews fans after the game said we were the best side seen at their place this season so a good day all round.

Don't these guys talk!?

FYI - Just sat in the hotel bar watching the Ryder Cup and half the Shrewsbury first team were sat 3 tables away....all then went out on the town in Brum!

Maybe PDC IS right!!?...I'd be REALLY peeved to see them laughing and chatting after their display.

Superb.

Point taken though. We now seem to be going from strength to strength after those 6 horrible days at the start of Sept.
Whereas the Pox can't buy a win.

ling forward but sorry I would still prefer to see Flint/Troy. Ward's mistake second half almost cost us a goal. Macca immense and Miller/Ferry combination looked good second half. Williams got fouled every time the ball went near him, ref gave him no protection and ignored blatant penalty (or it seemed so from where I was sitting at the other end!!!!) first half. Bring on Colchester and Bury. COYR

The fault yesterday was with The Press Association, who supply most (if not all) national media outlets with live match updates. Sky was also affected.

I'm pretty convinced at the moment he sees our best 11 as
Super Sir Wes
Nathan Troy Macca Jay
Matt Miller Navarro Roberts
Williams Benson
Most fans would rather see Si in there but Benson is never going to play every game to keep him fresh. Collins is still young and will improve and Bostock is being kept back until Paolo is convinced he's fully fit and we've trained enough to play a different system than 4-4-2 with two wingers.
So relaxed about the season it's incredible. Is there any other team in the Country that can be more optimistic about the future than us? Not a chance.
Back to back to back promotions coming. Watching the birth of a managerial legend. Isn't he already?! Build a statue of him when he takes us into the Premiership.

Syd As ever I agree with many of your points but I think you have to let Paolo use the squad. That's what he want's to do to keep the players fresh.
