SWINDON Town’s players are using the memories of their recent home defeat to Leyton Orient to help kick-start another long unbeaten run at the County Ground, according to captain Alan McCormack.

The Robins did not taste competitive defeat in Wiltshire for more than a year prior to their home surrender to the O’s last month, a rare blip on an otherwise impressive start to the League One campaign.

McCormack, the only ever-present in the Town side this term, stressed that he and his teammates have not forgotten the slip-up.

“We can’t allow what happened against Leyton Orient to happen again. That’s always in the backs of our minds,” he said.

“If we do that again we’ll get punished, but we’ve been flying high lately but that brings self-confidence with us and that has to keep going.”

McCormack is wary of a Colchester apparently revitalised by the installation of Joe Dunne as their new manager.

“You see it all the time, a new manager comes in and all of a sudden they get a result. All of a sudden players who weren’t playing great have a new belief, a new enthusiasm, a new desire to win games and impress the manager,” he said. “Everyone starts from a fresh sheet and the manager’s looking at everybody wanting to see a reaction and he got one on Saturday.

“On Tuesday people are going to want to impress him and stay in the team.

“It’s a very dangerous game because of that, no matter how they’ve done before this. We’ve got to be wary of what they’re going to bring but we’re at home.”

However, the Swindon skipper is confident the Robins have all the qualities to secure their fifth consecutive victory in all competitions.

“The winning mentality that was here last year is here this year. We can win every game and that’s the thing that drives you forward,” he said.

“When you know you can win every game it gives you so much more belief and enthusiasm to go out and do it.

“We work Monday to Friday and we know our shape and our discipline on the pitch and when we do that we seem to control every single game, no matter who we’re against - Stoke, Burnley, Brighton - we’ve shown that we’re a very good side.”
