SOUTHERN LEAGUE: Bluebirds bring in keeper John

CHIPPENHAM boss Nathan Rudge has brought in Cinderford keeper Ben John ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup third qualifying round tie with Badshot Lea.

Rudge believes 17-year-old No.1 Conor Thompson, formerly of Swindon Town’s youth setup, could be set for a return to the professional game with Exeter, and has reacted accordingly.

John, nicknamed ‘Psycho’, was Cinderford’s player of the season last year and featured against Chippenham in pre-season.

“I know that Conor has a few offers on the table from League clubs and I think that Exeter have offered him a contract,” said Rudge.

“Conor’s a talented keeper and if someone wants to go back to the pro game, I’ve got no problem with that.

“Ben will come in as competition to start with and we’ll see what happens from there.”

Meanwhile, Bluebirds chairman John Applegate says the club are still searching for a new director of football following Adie Mings’ departure from the role.

“Adie’s given me a name and I’m just waiting for him to get back to me,” said Applegate.

“We still need somebody to bridge the gap between (Chippenham) Park and ourselves and that’s what it’s all about really.

“It’s not just a fancy title, it’s a working title and we need somebody who’s going to come and work.”

Supermarine, who beat Hellenic League side Purton 2-0 in a friendly on Wednesday have no game this weekend while Cirencester travel to Wimborne in Division One South & West.
