SWINDON TOWN: Di Canio is wary of Bury's false position

PAOLO Di Canio is wary that Bury could be occupying a false position in the League One table as he prepares his Swindon Town side for their trip to Gigg Lane this weekend.

The Shakers have yet to win in the league this season but sparked into life with a 2-2 draw at Stevenage last week under the guidance of new manager Kevin Blackwell.

The circumstances resemble those that preceded Swindon’s clash with Colchester on Tuesday, with the U’s having only just appointed boss Joe Dunne.

On that occasion Town crumbled against a team who showed renewed enthusiasm, and Di Canio expects Bury to exhibit a similar attitude tomorrow.

“At the beginning of the season it is common to see many managers go out from their job. Sometimes it can have a positive effect on a team,” he said. “We saw the enthusiasm Colchester brought to the County Ground, especially the manager and the new players.

“It’s another game that we can’t be surprised. They will give their best because they are at the bottom, they haven’t won one game at home yet so they will do everything.

“If we go there without determination and desire it will be very tough. It will be tough even if we play 100 per cent because it’s 11 versus 11 and everything can happen.

“If we have 17 points and they have four points there is a reason at the moment, but we are at the beginning of the season and until 16 or 18 games in the league we don’t see the real potential of any side because many sides change a lot, many clubs change managers.

“If we go there and do not focus on the game it will be difficult and living with regret is for stupid people in my opinion, so we will see if the players are ready to fight for something we lost in the week.

Di Canio was impressed by Bury’s performance in their draw with high-flying Stevenage.

“They scored twice, two goals, away from home - that is not stupid,” he said.

“It means straight away that there was a reaction. They scored twice in a very tough place so it proved that for them it was a new start. They are a different team at the moment.

“We are going to analyse what quality they have, and they do have quality. It’s not League Two, in League One every side has two or three players with very good quality and good knowledge and experience.

“In one game they can decide the outcome of the game even against the best side in this league.

“For sure we will find a different team to two weeks ago. It will be very tough.”

Swindon will represent their ninth game out of ten against teams currently in the top half of the table. Only played Coventry from the bottom half and had a 2-2 away draw. Could be a very false position!!

Definitely don't want to underestimate any team but if we are to have any chance of doing well in this league we really need to be winning games like this.

Yes they need to be wary of all Teams in this division, said on other post let's be honest the Town have had a very good start to the season and just maybe we expected a little to much.
Plus injuries have not helped still Sat is another game hope they do ok.
As said also recall Rooney now makes you think he let a hard tackling mid fielder like Smith walk????? still he is the BOSS

I know its a well used chiche, but one game at a time.

If we play to the best of our ability, tight at the back, clinical up front, we have the beating of any team in this league.

I'm sure Paolo wont under-estimate anybody, and it certainly sounds like he is taking Bury V. seriously.

A dire performance like last Tuesday.... I don't think so. Yet the pitch may play an important role in the performance of both teams.

Its gonna be a toughie alright!

Jesus christ - we are back on the why did we let X go again are we!
.
I guess "Connell would have had a 100 by now" will be the next set of comments
.
If he should be recalling anyone it should be Risser - the equivalent player to Coke who is currently at a team sat in 2nd in L1

I would say I'd disagree with the previous comments about J Smith, not a bad player by any means but certainly nothing better than we have now. Some people haven't exactly sung the praises of Miller in the middle but I think he''s been a good acquisition. Him and either Ferry or Bostock in midfield would be my choice (as a no-nothing supporter). Obviously things don't always work out in practice but on paper I like the thought of Bostock or Ferry sitting off the front two and Miller behind picking up the scraps. Might see us having that extra bit of creativity which would open up teams that try to pack out the midfield. Both Ferry and Bostock are good passers of the ball and could provide that link with the forwards we often need.

Blackwell is one of the most experienced managers around. He will put out a worth crusty hard to wear down team and employ spoiling tactics for sure.Hard and difficult to beat, but not unbeatable. We will have to work very hard for any points gained here.
