SWINDON TOWN: Paolo wants a clinical edge up front
IN TIME, Paolo Di Canio hopes his Swindon Town team will add a clinical edge to their natural creativity up front, but for now the Robins boss has accepted that his players need “seven or eight” chances to score.
Town may have found the net 24 times in their 14 outings so far this season, but they could quite easily have had many more - with several players wasting gilt-edged chances.
Di Canio is not concerned with their relative profligacy so far this term, but he is determined to change his strikers’ ways as the campaign progresses.
He said: “Up front we have to create. Even if we create seven or eight chances we do not score. We are not a team who has two chances and scores.
“I hope in the future we can improve.
“James Collins and Andy Williams, I will try to help them but it is difficult to see us creating two chances and scoring to win the game.
“If you think of Portsmouth, MK Dons - we need to create seven or eight chances at the moment. I hope in the future we will be the team, if we want to be up there, that has two chances, one goal, 1-0.
“If you want to stay at the top level you have to win three, four or five games in this manner.
“Two chances, one goal, defend for your lives, crappy game, the opponent has two or thee chances but you block them and then you get three points.
“At the moment it is difficult for us. We don’t have this character and this quality.”
