Skipper McCormack to miss Bury clash
5:00am Saturday 6th October 2012 in Sport By Andy Warren
SWINDON captain Alan McCormack is set to miss today’s game away at Bury through injury, the Advertiser understands.
The Irishman has not travelled with the rest of the Town squad to Greater Manchester, and although the club were unable to confirm, the Advertiser understands the central defender has picked up a slight hamstring injury.
McCormack has been a constant figure at the heart of the Town defence this season, and has performed well while partnering Troy Archibald-Henville, Aden Flint and Darren Ward.

Actually in the other matches I've seen TAH play in he's looked composed on the ball so no idea what happened there. Lobotomy is my guess.

.
I agree with OTR that Ward will be a cert to start and probably be captain - I said from the day he signed he would become our captain before long
.
Devera is natural CB so I would not be shocked to see him in there with Ward
.
I think it might be:
.
Wes
Thompson Devera Ward McEveley
Ritchie Ferry Miller De Vita
Rooney Williams

Who ever gets picked as Captain needs a voice, we need a man not a mouse and someone who is going to have an experienced but cool head. I would say Jay or Ward.

Why would a slight hamstring injury prevent the club captain from travelling with his teammates? I would have thought they'd need him there for moral support, inspiration etc. I suppose it could be that he stayed behind to receive treatment, but it seems a bit odd to me.
I just hope there is nothing more to this than is being reported.

Macca has been found out a bit this season and on occasions really struggled. I can't see him being at CB if we get into the Championship, so maybe time to see him back in midfield.
Having Ward/Troy/flint as regular CB's may well strengthen the defence, surely Troy/Flint combo is the future.

jayden wrote:Agree on that one - why aggravate an injury with needless travel - sitting on a coach for 5-6 hours there and same again back won't help at all. Get rested and treated this is a good week to get fit for Monday with a full week of tactics and training given no mid-week match for the next two weeks.

I understand the initial reaction but I'd rather he stay home and get fit.

Shows just how close this league is - had we won 1-0 not lost 0-1 we'd be sat in 2nd and everyone would be on a real high looking to give Bury a good hiding, yet here we are in 8th after a second abject display at home in a few short weeks.
---.
Nice to have the next 2 weeks with no midweek match.

I think you have hit a very big nail with your last line. It also helps get the fitness up without the risk of mid week match injuries, and gives an additional day in ordinary training as opposed to set play practices for that evening game etc. taking up Tuesday.
Hope we can put up a real solid display today.

Yep we seem to have got a lot of knocks and bumps early on this season - compared to last when we seemed to get a big slice of luck on that front.
---.
Do the players and PDC well to get a good balanced schedule for a couple of weeks.
---.
Am convinced we'll do ok today and get back into the top 6 and hopefully get a solid finish to October in order to be nicely placed.

We could even rotate the whole team - except for Wes....imagine him in front of goal.....although couldn't do any worse than poor Collins' shot last week! :-)
...
Nice professional performance and a good solid win away from home please!
