Fine finish for Howell in Scotland
8:00am Monday 8th October 2012 in Sport
David Howell
SWINDON’S David Howell finished tied 34th at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
His final two rounds saw him shoot 67 and 69 as the Broome Manor professional finished nine under par overall.
Howell’s final score was some way off the eventual winner Brandan Grace from South African who carded 22 under par.
Having already played Carnoustie and Kingsbarns, Howell took on the Old Course at St Andrews on Saturday and took the first nine by storm.
The Swindon pro birdied the first and followed that with three more pars.
Three back-to-back birdies followed for Howell along with one at the ninth as he finished five under for the opening nine holes.
He carried that form onto the 10th with another birdie followed by two more pars.
However the 13th proved unlucky for Howell as he dropped a shot before parring his way through to 18.
All in all though it was fantastic round for Howell as he made the cut for the final day’s play, again at the Old Course, St Andrews.
And Howell made another good start to his round with a birdie at three.
He immediately dropped that shot at four before three birdies at seven through to nine took him to three under for the day.
Howell’s final nine however failed to live up to his first as he carded one bogey and one birdie to stay at three under for the day.
In the pro-am, Howell was playing with actor Bill Murray and finished tied 107th while the eventual winners were Alexander Noren and Ernesto Bertarelli.
