Cricklade maintain perfect record

CRICKLADE made it four wins out of four as they marked themselves out as the team to beat in Dorset & Wilts 2 North.
The league leaders defeated Wootton Bassett 2nds 24-17 on Saturday despite a sluggish start.
They were a try down in the first few minutes and after Baldwin was sin-binned, Bassett had a man advantage and ran in a second try.
Eventually Cricklade got a grip on the game and when a tap penalty was moved wide left, Nick Bond received the ball at pace and sidestepped his man for a try. Nathan Waite narrowly missed the extras.
After the break, the visitors drew level at 12-12 courtesy of a fine try and conversion by Waite and Bond then grabbed his second of the day after charging in from 75m out. Waite slotted the conversion between the posts.
Bond’s hat-trick try was a virtual rerun of his first and Waite was unfortunate with the kick, but Cricklade were comfortable.
Despite being on the end of another sin bin and conceding a try in the left corner, the visitors’ 14 men held out.
Elsewhere in the division, Fairford beat visiting Supermarine 2nds 29-17.
In Dorset & Wilts 1 North, Minety lost 20-12 at Bradford on Avon while lower down the ladder their second string defeated Supermarine 3rds 12-5 despite only travelling with 13 players.
Ashley Windle crashed over for the opening score, which Andy Edwards duly converted.
Dellam Murray dived over for the second and although Marine scored a try after the break, Marine hung on.
Chippenham grabbed their fifth victory in six National League 3 South West games courtesy of a 37-10 triumph over Avonmouth Old Boys.
