SWINDON TOWN: Wes tips Sky Blues for play-off push
6:00am Friday 12th October 2012 in Sport By Sam Morshead
Town keeper Wes Foderingham
WES Foderingham does not expect Coventry to be flirting with the drop zone by the time the season reaches its climax, instead tipping the Sky Blues for a surge into the League One play-off places.
The Swindon Town goalkeeper admitted to his surprise at seeing the Midlands outfit struggling at the start of the new campaign but, with a new manager in place in the shape of Mark Robins, he feels the atmosphere at the Ricoh Arena will improve at a rapid rate.
And he said he could understand why Coventry began the term so poorly after their relegation from the Championship.
“It’s difficult for any club when you get relegated,” he said.
“It’s difficult financially, it’s difficult for the morale in the changing room, the squad probably changes quite a lot, the manager might change.
“I don’t think they’ll be down there come the end of the season.
“I think when they get things right they’ve still got good quality in the squad, a few good young players as well and I think over the coming months you’ll see them pick up a few more points and maybe get into the top half or even the play-offs where they probably belong.
“They’re definitely a massive club and they’ve got everything to get themselves back into the Championship and even the Premier League. If they get things right off the pitch I’m sure it will start going right on the pitch.”
Foderingham and the rest of his Swindon teammates go into tomorrow’s clash at the County Ground desperate to make amends for the 1-0 home defeat to Colchester 10 days ago.
Following that match, Town boss Paolo Di Canio criticised the Robins stopper for the positioning of his wall, as Michael Rose bent the ball around the home defence to hand the U’s all three points.
But Foderingham revealed that discussions within the dressing room since then have convinced him, if he needed any convincing, that he had set up the blockade as best he could.
“We’ve looked at it quite deeply,” he said. “After the game the gaffer said to me the wall should have been further over and I said to him ‘100 per cent the wall was in the correct place’.
“I spoke to the goalkeeping coach (Domenico Doardo) and he said ‘I trust you Wes, if the wall was in the right place it was in the right place’.
“I spoke to Simon Ferry afterwards and he’s told me that, after I set the wall up, the wall shuffled a bit because they try to nick a few yards when the referee’s not looking and that took the wall out of place.
“Fair play to him (Rose), it’s a great free-kick, getting it round the wall is not easy but it’s probably the shift in the wall that caused the goal.”

Sorry folks I've sent through the thread for the Coventry game but think that Andy was out of office again yesterday.

Dear all,
.
…..one thing I've always lived by as a Town fan: If at first you don't succeed…..redefine success!!…..not something we'll need to do this season though!
.
Well as mentioned 4 wins out of the last 5 games but we all have one eye on the lack of dominance and quality there's been in the last few games but
.
I have to be honest and say I don't know diddly squat about the current Coventry team but I do know it is the 3rd time in succession that we'll be playing a team with a new manager in the last 3 weeks….not a great help to our cause but this team have to step back up to the task in hand and show the undoubted footballing qualities they all have.
.
I can remember the game up in Coventry in 1994…just!…mainl
y as it was the first time I'd ever visited their ground but other than that the only two occasions that we've played them since 1968 have both been at the County Ground winning one 3-1 and losing the other more recent F.A.Cup tie 0-2. Some of the more mature amongst us will remember that the 1968 fixtures were in the League Cup and on our way to that historical date at Wembley with a 2-2 draw away and a 3-0 win at home.
.
All in all we've done quite well against them in the league in recent years at the County Ground….well by recent years I mean the last 10 games since 1955(!?)…I guess recent is pushing it a bit! :-) Since then though we've Won 6 - Drawn 3 - Lost 1 (we've lost a couple of others but both were F.A. Cup ties)….the last 3 results have been 3-1; 4-1 and 4-1 wins….so I'll settle for that come 5pm on Saturday without a doubt!!
.
Good luck with the questions below but keep an eye out for the extra bonus below and for the Prediction League version of F.A. Cup which will kick off with a draw for 'Groups' next week…all teams in from the start this time round.

B) Total number of shots on target (both teams) - 1pt.

Additional Bonus:.
W) What will be the total number of goals scored by Swindon in October?…we've already got 1 and have 5 league and cup games remaining. (5pts).
.
Cheers all and good luck to all….but especially to the boys in Red and White on Saturday!!!….good game of football due….big win, little win or draw!?!…depends on which STFC team turns up to my mind.
