FIVE of Walcot’s talented teenagers are in action tomorrow as they contest the opening rounds of the National Association of Children and Young Persons Championship in Bristol.

Previous winner Ryan Martin is joined by former England schoolboy internationals Connor Wells and Tommy McDonagh, with clubmates John Luke Bolton and Callum Wells making up the quintet.

Eighteen-year-old Martin will face Kyle Gargett from Devonport ABC in the class C (67kg) category.

Potentially the trickiest tasks fall to Wells and McDonagh, who may have to step into the ring twice in one day.

Wells, 18, has Kane Stewart from Bristol’s Paddy John’s Gym and Kier McKinnon from Bideford ABC to contend with in class C (63.5kg).

McDonagh, 17, has former national champion Pawel Augustrik (Paddy John’s) and Aaron Edwards (Tiverton) to overcome in class B (75kg).

In class A (54kg), Bolton, 16, meets Alex Jones (Tiverton), while Callum Wells locks horns with Dave Lewis from Minehead ABC at 63kg.

Walcot chief coach Harry Scott said: “These are a good crop of boxers but the opposition will be tough. We hope they perform to their best on the day and do the club proud.”

The action starts at 1.30pm at Broad Plain Boys Club.

Meanwhile, boxing stars David Haye and George Groves will be special guests at Paddy Fitzpatrick’s amateur show later this month.

Boxers from all four of Swindon’s amateur clubs will be in action on Friday, October 26 at the Oasis.

Fitzpatrick is hoping to stage 16 bouts while former world heavyweight champion Haye and reigning British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion Groves will meet the public for pictures and autographs.

Anyone who purchases VIP tickets can sit in on a special question and answer session with Haye and Groves that involves watching the pair’s last fights.

Tickets cost £15 standard or £40 VIP and can be obtained through Fitzpatrick on 07917 104000 or from the Oasis box office.

Doors open at 6pm with the first bell sounding between 7.30pm-8pm.

Meanwhile, Neilson Promotions’ white collar boxing night, due to take place tonight, has changed venues.

The event was set to go ahead at MECA but will now be take place at the Oasis from 7pm.
